Joseph Kony
It was a matter of time before it made it to the DN :/. What are your opinions on not Kony but Invisible Children. Personally I don't think that people should be doing what there doing for them. If the numbers are right only 31% of the money goes to stopping Kony (the rest goes to the film making and travel.) The majority of this 31% I spent on funding the Ugandan militia force which like Kony rapes and loots. It's a good cause but there are better ways to go through with it. You don't have to agree with me I just want to know what you think .
This has been all over the internet and everyone here has probably heard of it somehow.
I know that's why you should have an opinion.
In general, I think children's charities are some of the lowest scum around. Of course there are probably some really good ones out there, but it's also a great racket for conmen just trying to separate people from their money while doing as little a possible, and from what I've seen, the latter are far more numerous.
So I don't know much about Invisible Children Inc, but my initial impression is not a good one.

Meh. <This shall be my total contribution to this thread )

Oww... Do I get punishment if I don't?
I don't really have an opinion to be honest... Getting attention for the problem is a good cause too. But I can see where the criticism comes from too...

Pretty sad that it had to take a viral video to make people start realising this shoot happens in places like Africa.
Why hasn't anyone shot him yet? I know almost all our countries have covert operatives who could waste him two hours from now if given the word. So why don't they? I smell a big, fat, stinky fish, and it's not me (I showered today).

Sorry, that's me. I just had breakfast.
But, yeah. Kony's an donkey, but it doesn't take a viral video to change the world alone. Some people think that clicking 'like' on something will do something, or that simply watching a video will make them an activist. Some people don't even care. To me, Kony is some random donkey who will get a bullet in a brain and me ranting and raving about it won't speed up the process any faster. Partially since I used up my yearly 'give a ducks' allotted to me from other people when I was ranting and raving about SOPA a while ago.

They can't shoot him because they can't find him. If you have any idea of how big African countries are and how little of that is populated, you'll have an idea of how many hiding places there are. Think of how long it took to find Osama. Now realize that an entire country fears Kony and he has an army (including brainwashed kid soldiers) defending him and it's no surprise he hasn't been (and won't be) shot any time soon. The only way he'll get shot is if he's ever betrayed by his own men, probably only to be replaced by an even worse evil.
What can be done however is raise awareness (this is what the viral stuff is about) so that internation missions (some already in progress) stay active. It's too easy for goverments to reallocate resources away from something less than 1% of the population knows about, no matter how bad it is. So by having more people care about it, or even know about it, these missions are in less jeopardy of being cancelled.

I don't think the video is helpful, for a series of reasons. Most were described by the press in the days after the video went viral. But here is something more recent:

Ah, I was not aware of that. That's indeed somewhat fishy. I still believe the intentions are good, but maybe they should put someone else to figure out how they could best help.
Going to debate on validity of whole affair tonight @ Fed. Square
People want him arrested for training kids to be soldiers for his army etc. He's been doing this for liek 20 years or something and now people start to notice.
I just read that. Too bizarre. Invisible Children Inc. Released a statement to the effect that "These last few weeks have taken an emotional toll on all of us, especially Jason." I guess so!
Well now I don't think anyone is going to take him seriously.

I didn't give them any money because they wanted 10 dollars for a 2 dollar bracelet and 20 more dollars to ship it to me. I don't think so.
But I agree with raising awareness. And I agree he
needs to be captured and the children rescued(although many of them will likely be too brainwashed to be helped now)
I think Russell had a mental breakdown, sometimes it's better NOT to read all the comments people make.
Uh..I mean...gork...snerk...I'm a troll...I like mud.

I saw an interview with one of the police officers who arrested Russell and she said that it was apparent right away that it was not a criminal issue but a medical one.
I also saw part of a video showing him naked and pounding the ground with his fists while stopping every so often to talk to someone who wasn't there.
And btw, so what?
It doesn't change the fact that he helped raise awareness of who Kony is and what Kony has done.
It's been going on for over 20 years and most of
us never heard about it until now.
And we've all seen that there is power in numbers
when it comes to forcing our government to act.
It's no wonder he had a break down, he's been trying
to help the Ugandan people for many years and now
he raises awareness on a major scale only to have
people criticize how the money is spent.
Have you ever seen the stats on ALL charities, most
of the money doesn't go to the people in need.
That's just the way it is.
