The United States spends more on its military than rest of the top 15 nations with the highest military expenditure. The rest of the list includes China ($119 bn), UK ($59.6 bn), France ($59.3bn), Russia ($58.7bn), Japan ($54.5bn), Germany ($45.2bn), Saudi Arabia ($45.2bn), India ($41.3bn), Italy ($37bn), Brazil ($33.5bn), South Korea ($27.6bn), Australia ($24bn), Canada ($22.8bn) and Turkey ($17.5bn). The US spends $698 billion. (Figures courtesy Stockholm International Peace Research Institute).

The total known land area occupied by US bases and facilities is 15,654 square miles -- bigger than Washington DC, Massachusetts, and New Jersey combined.

By 2033, the US will be paying $59 billion a year to its veterans injured in the wars

In 2007, the amount of money labeled 'wasted' or 'lost' in Iraq -- $11 billion -- could pay 220,000 teachers salaries

Defence spending is higher today than at any time since the height of World War II

The yearly cost of stationing one soldier in Iraq could feed 60 American families

Each day in Afghanistan costs the government more than it did to build the entire Pentagon

In 2008, the Pentagon spent more money every five seconds in Iraq than the average American earned in a year

Decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the US Defence Department still has more than 40 generals, admirals or civilian equivalents based in Europe

The amount the government has spent compensating radiation victims of nuclear testing ($1.5 billion) could fully educate 13,000 American kids

The Pentagon spends more on war than all 50 states combined spend on health, education, welfare, and safety

The US has 5 per cent of the world's population -- but almost 50% of the world's total military expenditure

I agree. I've lately gotten pissed off about America too. I was watching TV one day, and realized that they really can't make even one TV show so it wouldn't include a word like "weapon", "gun", "destruction", "death". Yesterday I decided to watch a show called "Ancient inventions", until I saw the title which was 'Weapons and explosives".

I don't hate America as a country nor all the Americans living in there. Only those who can't think a full sentence without something horrible in it, and those who think America is superior.

Eh, I hate how large our military is, I'm a pacifist so I don't see a need for military. At least give them another use besides letting them sit around at base itching for a fight, put them on the streets as police offices, I bet there'd end up with a lot less crime then. The world should be based on truces not on who has the biggest military. Maybe it's kinda like how some guys get really big cars because they think bigger is better. Militaries should only be used to stop rebels. No countries should have to fight each other anymore, we're smarter than that.

Tv shows containing violence, explosion and nudity sells, that's why there's a lot of them... I don't know why a whole country should be blaimed by this though. I'd say the writers should be more creative and make interesting stories that doesn't need to have the listed things above to become popular.

Also, I don't really know why several people at this forum has a grudge against America, let alone feeling the need of creating multiple threads about it. Quite many on this forum are from America so you should keep your hatin' to yourself.

All hail China.

No ... not this again. Why did you spoil it for us, Godley? Peace.
If there should be a war, it should be turn based. Like Valkyria Chronicles. There I go again ...

What's the yearly salary for the medics? How about the janitors? Or maybe the cooks? All of theses people on the militarys pay roll that work in the bases aren't necessarily fighters. They also have a more divided army. The coast gaurd, the navy, the airforce, marines, army, etc. It's not so much the number of troops it's how successful they are. They've accumulated so much land and the government finds it absolutely necessary to occupy it.

I'll admit its the truth. We spend a lot on our military, but if we didn't, you would all be speaking Russian right now. Why get all pissed off? We love our liberty and are willing to die to save it, so let us. Be as pacifistic as you like, but know that all choices have consequences. If another countries army sets foot on our soil, I will lay down my life to defend my loved ones, and I would like to have a few big guns behind me to help. I don't agree with everything my government does with our army, but I still feel better knowing it's there.

Because it's laughably sad just how much money is pissed down the drain when sick people can't even visit a doctor without selling their house.

I don't think too many people on this board study logic, Toe. At least as far as I can tell.
