Ethel's Beard Mystery FINALLY SOLVED!!
It is the question of the decade, a mystery Dinkers have been trying to solve since the creation of Dink Smallwood; Why the hell does Ethel, an old woman, have a beard?!
Well, upon closer inspection just yesterday, I believe I have finally solved this mystery. When looked closely, you can actually see it. See what, you ask? Well, what we have thought was Ethel's hair for the past 13 years, is actually not her hair. Nor what we thought was her beard is a beard. She is actually wearing a headscarf, tied around her head and under her chin. Due to her small size, the scarf falls all the way down to her knees.
So here you go, look for yourself, and you can actually see it! THIS MYSTERY HAS FINALLY BEEN SOLVED!!

Hmmm, no less lice then initially suspected, but.
Ethel doesn't turn me on anymore.
.. wut?
.. wut?
But, for story purposes, Ethel's sprite could still easily double as a man, correct?
Obviously. Who ever said men can't wear scarfs?
I can see it, but with such crap graphics, I'd say you can just as well mistake the beard and hair for a scarf, as mistake the scarf for a beard and hair... Which is good. I guess.
pic or it didnt happen
I think you need eyes rather, Glenn. Use Dinkulum's avatar over there.
On a side note, I don't think Dink has that crappy graphics. You just need to look at them in a certain way.

Yeah, crap wasn't really the way to put it... "low resolution graphics", maybe (there are so few pixels there that it's sometimes difficult to tell what something is supposed to be).
Yeah, I never saw it as a beard either before I saw people here talk about it. I saw it as a part of her coat or something. But now I see it as a scarf, and no matter how much I want to see the beard again, I can't see it.

Nope. Definitely a big, crappy looking, Persian-styled beard.
I always thought it was herr coat's cuff-thingy.
Yep, exactly what I meant. I saw it as that, before I saw it as a beard, before I saw it as a scarf, which it most definitely is, considering it has different colored squares in it.

Yeah, well, that top edge looks awfully sharp and rigid. It's gotta be a helmet!
I still thinks its a scarf because why wear a scarf is it always cold out and she/he is old and why think ethel is a man the name sounds woman.unless its like WOOman.

BABUSHKA WOMAN!
What if she has a beard under the scarf?
Scarf under the beard? That's not a good question. If there was a scarf under the beard, the beard would cover it, therefore there would be no 'Beard or Scarf' debate because it would prove that Ethel is, in fact, a male. The whole basis of the 'Beard or Scarf' is because it is hard to determine the gender of Ethel. Is Ether female? No, she has a beard. What if the beard is a scarf, then he is a female. No matter where you turn, you will find confusion in this debate because one side doesn't want to really accept the other side's opinion. Either that, or Ethel is too dang genderless.
I always thought it was a scarf.

Obviously the gender of Ethel is up to her creator, Seth. He has made it very clear through Dink and his Mother that he considers her a female ("She's old, isn't she?" "Yes, Dink, she is.")
So I would say that there is no question about her gender, but only about what the picture is trying to mean. Given that Seth wanted her to be female, I find it very unlikely that she would have a beard.

Seth did have a pretty weird sense of humour.
ok ok ;ets just agree to disagree as in we keep our thouhgts about this to ourselves
Ethel is a man with a beard, a woman with a beard, a babushka lady, or a mutant.
O.o *takes several steps away*
Good catch - but then there's another mystery: why did Seth put the graphics in a "Oldman" directory (dink/dink/graphics/People/Oldman/dir.ff) ?
