I would like to request the staff to delete unused accounts. Thousands of accounts are here, yet only a handful ever post. Some people just make accounts and throw them away. So, it would be good to do some cleaning-up. This includes Tal and SimonK. We should elect a new king. Tal doesn't deserve to be king

This is part of what bothers me about why we don't have any community growth. All of our site admins are gone (do any of the ranking members here have any power beyond posting polls, news and closing threads?), we have an out-of-date quote list that shows us as clinging to the past like a Baby Dave to any mspa object, and because of this we draw in less people than before and the community stays stagnant for the most part.

Whoever it is that actually is active and has the most permissions needs to contact Tal or Redink1 for website administration ability.

I nominate myself for new Tal.

And what would the purpose of such a cleaning up be? It's not like we have an immediate shortage of usernames, unless you have some very specific demands. And keeping people's usernames allows the board's history to remain accessible and keeps people's reviews and files available too. I mean would you honestly want all SimonK's files and reviews to be taken down? That sounds rather drastic. And pointless.

Plus, I was pleased to find my account perfectly fine when I returned after years of being absent. I agree that we might need more "administrative" powers to truly change certain things on the site, but removing old accounts is useless and even detrimental

Old accounts that never have been used should be removed. ( say less then ten posts, no review, no files and more than three years since last log in)

Not really. It would only be unfair. For example, if your stipulations would have been used, Seth would not have been able to login, when all that testing was going on.

Are unused accounts somehow in your way?

They're only visible if you look for them. Besides, no matter how small the contribution, if only one post, it's part of the site history.

How about an alternative? If someone has a past account that they aren't using anymore and haven't used in years that doesn't have any reviews and/or games, then that person can ask for that account to be deleted.
For instance, My old Dinker11kbk account has been sitting in dust for god knows how long. While it is a record of my noobishness way back when, it serves no good purpose whatsoever. Nobody really misses it and I changed accounts because of a strange bug that logged me out every five seconds.
There's a perfect example of what should be deleted, AshsAshs' account would also be good to note. Sure, it's a perfect record of the worlds' worst No0b's posts, but it serves the exact same purpose of a coffee stain.

Not saying it's a good idea to delete accounts for no reason, but if people choose to delete their account then they should be able to.

We are users of this site not owners - if you don't like what you have posted then stop posting maybe!
If you dont like archived bits and bobs - stop lookin at it!
If the owner wants a cleanout I am sure he will do so with no prompting from any of us.

Rather delete all accounts who have released any files with the score 1 or below.

I don't think others than Redink even have the power to delete accounts and we all know he ain't gonna show up to do stuff that easily. Besides, I still think this was a rather silly idea to even come up with.

My solution is simple.

Give the site another new version. We've had this one for quite a while and could just bop everything to an Old Forums page, renaming the last old forums to Ancient forums. All accounts and Off-Topic threads get bumped away, all other threads of importance and private messagess don't.

Just my 2 cents.

Nah. Leave 'um. It's nice to read posts from users from the early days, reading of their efforts, their advice, and the heck they went through trying to get things working properly.

Deleting accounts would not accomplish anything, other than freeing up those usernames. If you did that, you'd have to delete the posts by the usernames first. Not a good idea at all. Many older posts by long gone users have information in them that still help to this day.

Dinkdoodler, you can't just go deleting accounts that haven't been used. People do take breaks from the internet and/or could be too busy. And why would you want to delete SimonK? He seriously has some of the best reviews and Dmods out there

Not to mention that deleting him is deleting his Dmods. BLASPHEMY.

I think it's safe to say that this thread should be closed. No accounts are going to get deleted, I am 99% sure. And this thread has the potential to blow into a giant flamewar any moment, sooner or later.
