Since I have been sucking hard at graphic making, I want to know what program to use. I used GIMP for most of my last files and paint to change the file types. what other photo editing software do you reccomend?

Let me heat that up for you...
I agree with the ghost, i use Photoshop for most of my graphics editing, but sometimes nothing beats good 'ole MS Paint. Seriously, Photoshop, as good as it is, still has lacking features. MS Paint is good for doing the basic things that Photoshop can't.

I hear that GIMP is kinda alright, though I doubt as powerful as Photoshop.

It costs a couple of hundred dollars though, so you might want to find a crack or something.

Hmm..
I use photoshop elements, GIMP and paint
Gimp is just as good as pohotoshop elements, but if you are used to photoshop it takes time to learn gimp.

Stick to gimp and learn that probably.

I heard that the GIMP's interface and tools are going to be improved a LOT with the new version, finally making it something that can compete with the big guys. So I suggest you stick with the GIMP too.

No sense in having two suites that are made to do the same anyway, where one of them is really expensive and more intended for people whose jobs involve graphics.

Also, don't use Paint to change the file types... The GIMP can do that, and does it a lot better (including tools and filters to "fix" JPGs with lots of artifacts and stuff like that).

I never use paint to chamge file types... just for basic operations. I hate how XP's paint doesn't support transparency, though 98's paint does.

Not good practice to suggest searching for illegal cracks on the web. How would you feel if you spent years of your life working on something, and then someone just goes and collects a copy of it for free, against your will?

And by the way, Skorn, if you're looking to create stuff like new creatures, or objects etc. I wouldn't recommend programs like the GIMP or Photoshop. For 3D modelling and the like, check out Blender 3D. There are other programs available that do the same thing, but none as popular, powerful and as free as Blender 3D.

Oh, and by the way, SimonK used it for all his awesome stuff. Does that convince you some?

There are other programs that are easier for beginners than Blender, eg Art of Illusion. I made the hammer for Bug Mania in this after one basic tutorial and didn't really know what I was doing

Considering Photoshop is a commercial product, it's just about losing revenue as a company. As the programming drone you get paid, anyway.

Still, not at all supporting the companies that make good stuff isn't a good thing. Adobe makes plenty of money, but this isn't an excuse to start warezing. Especially when there actually ARE free, close-to-equivalent tools out there.

Now I'm getting confused, can you work with 3d models and save as BMPs in difrent directions? Have I been working with all frames when there is an easier way out?

Yep. Make 3D model, save as bmp, move a little, save as bmp, move a little.....
Ever made stop-motion?

I really should lear 3d modeling. I've alwayes loved drawing/painting and working with computers, so 3d modeling should be something for me. ;O

Let us save our effort and just lie down and die.
I would strongly, strongly, strongly recommend using GraphicsGale for any pixel art. Best of all, it's free.
