The Dink Network

Salutations, sirs, madams, and, of course, you lovable riff-raff.

I've made a couple minor tweaks to the site recently: the fancyily-faded background changed, and I added proper articles for Everything Dink and Pollocracy.

I might have some more timely motivation to spruce up the ol' web site. Here is what I have on my todo list:

+ Fix Screenshots
+ Add Chat Link
+ Mysterious Random Quote Improvements

Anyone other suggestions?

2. Sub Searches (not really necessary), as in search for Files, Users, etc. Not just in general.

That's about all I can think of.

get a Quote from all of the Dinkers, something funny. And maybe instead of the Chat being somewhere else, it could be next to the 'Forum' icon labled 'Chat' or something.

As said in the other thread, I think that we should bring the Dinker's View back. So, since you are/were the king, you could ask people if they wanted to host the Dinker's View.

...And if they don't, you could always force them to host it.

There are always things I think can be improved, some things I can think of right now:

1) Hierachy in the filecatagories. Right now we have 20 catagories which can be quite confusing for a new member. (How do I know that an 'Epic' is also a 'D-Mod'?)

I think you can do it this way:

File catagories:
- Official
- D-Mod
- Delelopment
- Miscellaneous

And when you click 'D-Mod' you see all DMODs but you can select to see only epics for example. A bit like it used to be in the past. Easier for new people I think.

2) Make Personal message threads in such a way that they are stickied untill read. If you don't log in very frequently you might very well miss PMs.

That's all I can think of right now...

Oh, and another thing. We should bring back the "Weird" styled D-Mods. Currently if there's a weird D-Mod (Bug Mania for example) it just shows that it's a D-Mod. This is quite confusing since someone who hasn't played this D-Mod before is just wondering "Hmmm... is this a quest or epic". So yeah, we should really bring back the "Weird" styled D-Mods.

Also the Dink Fan Listing site in the Partners area is down.

But a link to the staff page would be nice, though.

EDIT: Also, you should change the thing with "Lazy bum" of the new staff members on the staff page, since the old staff is much more lazy than the new one.

If anything, this forum could indeed use a /code tag

for the idea of updated rules, we COULD keep the old rules as a memento to the previous TDN and have a new set of rules. (And by the way, i don't see much use for swear filters, seeing as all of the kids younger then ten know more cusses then even me!)

The swear filters are there for the courtesy of others. I don't see why everyone insists on bypassing it.

Can't think of anything right now that hasn't been mentioned...

What does this code tag do? How does it make a difference to just typing the code here as normal? (Answered, thanks to the wonders of IRC )
And I never have seen the point of quote tags - italics or whatever does much the same thing and avoids everyone just quoting the entire post.

Hmm, everything that jumped to mind has already been mentioned. New staff and rules pages would be good.

the swear filter is funny. its an important part of the DN's weird humour!

i see everyone's point. And 'Ass' is not really a word that should be described as 'bad' it's the kind of word that is used as 'bad'.

an Ass is a donkey you idiots. Also, make the chat link to the IRC channel next to the button links up top. (Files, Forum etc.)

And a cheat sheet as a forum sticky telling people how to make blood, links, emoticons and large text would be nice.

Oh, yes. Actually having the Dink Chat hosted at the DN, next to the Forum tab or something, would be neat. Either that, or I'll have to poke Glenn to change the chat's background. Way too confusing
