I've never finished a game, because the large battles would always lag 'n crash, but yeah, I've played a bit. 
I remember the good old days of making a massive bitmap of the map in Avernum 3. I had over half the map made up. It was a freaking lot of screenshots and pasting. Did I mention how *massive* that file was as well?
Oh, and I can't wait for Avernum 4. Maybe the new compy won't crash during the battles.
