In another cave east and a little south of that cave is a line of six posts with snakes -- stand in front of the fourth from the left and talk to it. It's the switch. A ticker will start, giving you 30-some seconds to get back to the cave above the trader's building. When you get there, the posts are gone and you can get the stuff.
