Thanks Slipdink, there's at least one minor graphical issue that drone1400 mentioned above in regards to 24-bit graphics looking weird when launched in 8-bit mode, but it's nothing that can't be worked around by starting in 24-bit graphics mode, and authors performing a get_truecolor() check at launch. In this case, it's the price paid for PNG support with functional transparency. Apart from that, just about everything else should be identical or at the very least non-breakingly indistinguishable.
Freedink automatically applied texture filtering in desktop full-screen and maximised windows, with Beuc having programmed the ability for nearest-neighbour as well except with no way to switch between the two until now. 1.08 never had anything like that as it has no capability for display modes with a higher resolution unless using something like DxWnd.
