Yeah, I think it had a lot to do with the fact that it's technically impressive and pulls off pretty much everything that D-Mods could do at the time, as well as being long-anticipated and made by a guy who knew what he was doing. The new graphics blend right in with the official ones too.
A lot about it is good, but that doesn't make it exempt of criticism, of course.
