Reply to Knight inside fence - Help please!

Hi guys
Having a real problem with the knight inside the fence. I talk to the pole, which transports Dink somewhere, trouble is the screen (apart from the status bars) is completely black and Dink won't respond to any key. He says something like "what am I doing here?" and then after a wait (with or without key presses) "Sure, bring it on" and then another wait until a message comes up saying "do you want to try again?". No matter what I do I can't get any response other than the loop described above so I'm stuck at this point with no way out - help!
