I imagine having a professional dentist do it should also be a great deal less painful than ripping them out yourself with household pliers or something.
Remember, there is also the stress and anxiety of being in a dentist's seat. I know many people who suffer from that (although I only know myself in that respect).
A lot of things that involve pain and/or doing something to your own body are easier done yourself, since only you know for sure what's going to happen.
