Pretty nice, but the author did say that it's just the MIDI with replaced instruments. Maybe I should do one sometime (from scratch, with more faithful NES instruments 
).
In a similar fashion, I already did several conversion experiments to "old formats". For example, check out these Final Fantasy 7 MIDIs played back through an Adlib sound card (meaning they sound like either old DOS games or a Genesis/Mega Drive):
