can't get gland can't become beserk can't find island

Hello all,
I have been playing D-Mods for a while now and this is the first time I feel so stupid. So I got the key from the girl waiting to go to the loo, came up talked to everyone and I am supposed to find a hero's gland. Now from the reviews I gathered that I am not the only one who cannot get past those flipping slimed to get that gland from Leo (I suppose) and I have to find an alternative or find the island? Drinking that potion instead of robbing that guy doesn't seem to work either.
My problem is that I am totally stuck. What am I supposed to do now if going down to die by royalist slimes is not an option? Please don't tell me I have to go beserk or something because that really doesn't help

There's a secret island full of potions, the entrance is left of the bar next to the water (a warp). Probably the best way to get through the slimes is to run! Especially the first screen, as that will lock if you stay there too long.
BTW, if after you have the gland you pay up instead of going berserk, let me know how you get past the beach! I'm stuck there.

Wow thanks! Now I really feel stupid but at least I got unstuck.
At the beach DON'T look for anything resembling a shelf! In the upper left corner or thereabouts you pick up a shell after walking over it (it didn't show up in my inventory btw) which means that I walked up and down every INCH of the beach and you may have to do more or less the same on a smaller scale (just concentrate on shells and suchlike on the NW corner) then some "basement" stairs appear on the south. Go down and you are back on the island.
