Hello. As I haven't been able to find a way to fix this problem myself, I made this topic. As the topic mentions: I have problems with my Dink Smallwood game sounds.

Music plays just fine, but no other sound works for some strange reason.

I use non-HD Dink Smallwood version 1.08 and freedink addition.

If anyone knows how to make sounds work again, please help.

That does sound strange. Are the sounds in the sound folder? Dink Smallwood\dink\sound\ should have a bunch of .mid files, and a bunch of .wav files in it.

I encountered something like this in Freedink on W7 with the most recent build. I found that if I changed the environment variable to winmm as per this page it would start the sound effects again. Here's a guide to environment variables

Do you have a non-standard audio set up with multiple sound cards or exotic audio hardware?

I do not understand your question. How do I check if I have non-standard audio set up with multiple sound cards or exotic audio hardware?

As for changing or creating a new enviroment variable, I am unsure if I can do that, because I do not understand how do I do that and what I am actually supposed to do. I also do not understand how does SDL works. Heck: I don't even know what is enviroment variable.
