Dink eras *NEW*
I've come up with idea, that maybe we should start naming some years in Dink Network as eras. As we all know, there have been times where D-Mods have really sucked, and really been best.
This could be fun, seeing other people come up with ideas (and just to pass time)
I did a little research of D-Mods points, and what year they were made, and I came up with decision that these could be the eras.
Current names:
1998-2000: RTSoft era (pretty standard beginning of a website)
2000-2003: Banana era (Definitely the best era)
2003-2005: Dark Age of NewBs era (Not as good as 2nd era but still good)
2005-2009: Dead Dragon Carcass era (Definitely the worst era, hopefully get better soon)
2009-????: Glory of New Staff era (Things are gtiing better. The times are much better than in DDC era, but for how long"
I would like you to come up with names to these eras.
I'll inform as soon as I come up with names.
EDIT: If someone has said a name that you like (or dislike, but want to vote it for some mental problem -reasons) just tell us that you support the name.

It feels like the banana era has gradually waned in recent years, only to be replaced by the Dead Dragon Carcass era.
The Bananas' fall from power was marked by A Dark Age of NewBs and general ignorance, especially concerning the great powers of the past, with rare exceptions such as SimonK - immortalized mainly 'cause he was Aussie... amongst other, more obscure reasons.
However, as the the DDC rotted happily as the ruling deity of TDN, and Tal did whatever Tal does, a revolution loomed on the Horizon. What it held, could not at the time be predicted.

Ummm... Schnapper, could you just say what name you want for which era. E.G: 2000-2003 = Banana era.
Because what you just said..err.. let's just say I didn't understand it.
EDIT: I named the 3rd era as Dark Age of NewBs, since I think that's what Schnapper wanted.

I think that DDC has been our faith ever since TDN was created.
2005-2009: Definitely the worst era, hopefully get better soon
Things won't improve unless steps are taken to draw more people into the community. The problem is that the D-Mod authors of the previous eras have moved on but no new developers have taken their place to provide the community with a steady influx of (quality) D-Mods.

The RTSoft era is made up by me, in case you wondered.
EDIT: Dangit, someone should put this on "stickies".

It's gonna get better. This year, even
Yeah, but we'll never get those old good times back.
When you look at some old postings, you can actually see Dinkers are having fun posting. Nowadays, the posts that Dinkers post don't just have that same feeling to them.

Completely agree with you.

Man, I miss the old days. I joined right before the Banana era begun, in late 1999. I fell in love with another Dinker and had a relationship with her for a little more than three years, and all the while, the Dink Network was a great place to hang out. I don't remember the exact date when the DN started to lose its charm, but it was a sad time, no doubt.
Yeah, I read about it somewhere. It was Sharp her name, wasn't it? And she lived in Finland just like me. Haw haw

Yeah, Sharp is her Dink Network username, and she's a Finn, like yourself.

That wasn't b u l l s h i t, but you need someone to support your names, to get them to the list.

Now I'm inspired about the news post about TDN that Christiaan posted.
And if everything goes as I planned, Christiaan is gonna sticky this topic soon
(Though anything never goes as I've planned, but anyways)
In this topic we should start thinking what must we do, or more like, what should be changed to make TDN great place again. What should be done, to bring back the great Banana era. That's what you should think and post here.
You ofcourse can still make up new eras' names, and support them.
EDIT: As I said that nothing goes as I planned, Christiaan isn't able to sticky this, niether does he want to
Make TDN better place,

I actually kind of agree with this... 2000-2003 was, to use the vernacular, the bomb-diggity for the Dink Community.
According to my statistics, 2006-2007 were the prime years when it comes to D-Mod releases.
The Cloud Castle series, Initiation, the excellent One Screen D-Mods... it was a pretty good time, really.
EDIT: damm, I see the fault now. Those D-Mods were indeed from 2002-2003. It seems almost every D-Mod around was updated on february 2006, for some reason. There goes my statistic mumbo jumbo!

Dink v1.08 caused a lot of updates for DMODs. As v1.08 came out in early 2006 it makes sense...
And funny you name initiation and cloud castle, both of which are from 2004, not 2002-2003. A lot of great DMODs are actually still earlier then 2002. DMODs like Friends beyond 3, FIAT, stone of balance and both quests for Dorinthia were released before 2002...

Ah, yes. I remember it again, most D-Mods had black screens because of 1.08.
That reminds me, I was planning on playing through the D-Mods on the compatability list and fixing them. But it can be quite the task I'm afraid...

I probably took the 2000-2003 because the best D-Mod ever to date, Pilgrim's Quest was released in 2002, or was it 2003. Anyway, that's the reason I didn't make it straight from 2000, to 2005. Since after PQ was released, the D-Mods were still good, but started getting worse. And one of the reasons was aswell, that most of the Epics, were released in 2000-2003.
Oh, by the way, if you need help Christiaan, the most productive year was 2002. Just go to "NEWS - archive" and look. While in the latest page you can see years 2007, 2008 and 2009. But you need 6 or 5 pages to look all the files that are uploaded in 2002. Pretty awesome, huh?

I think Cloud Castle 2 is better than Pilgrim's Quest.
But I'm sure you're all aware of my opinions on the d-mod scene, so I won't bore you.

SabreTrout knows it already
, but I, too think that CC 2 is better than PQ. PQ just has more scores right now.
And now, I'm off to lower Pilgrim's Quest scores.

"Cloud Castle 2 is better than Pilgrim's Quest."
I doubt it. PQ has LOTS of stuff, and I saw that CC2 is only 2.8 MB.
Unless CC2 has the concentration on story, dialogs, characters, quests and music (that use less space), it's still a challenge to beat PQ's equivalents.
Even if that could be the case, PQ could win against graphics, sounds, animation FXs, enemies and places.
(I hope I was not being TOO serious...

They're very close in terms of how fun they are, really.
Well, I said I think that CC 2 is better than PQ. And my opinion is, they're atleast both as good.

AGREED, and also my oppinion, if only because I've yet to actually beat PQ
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to download it again.

In PQ, there just wasn't that "something", that CC 2 had.
No offense to Simon, he makes great D-Mods.

Cloud Castle 2 has more stuff than Pilgrim's Quest. Putting aside my ego for a moment, PQ has some great graphics and Simon implemented some truly superb additions to the Dink template; it's a huge disappointment to me that nobody has taken up his mantle in the last few years.
However, I feel CC2 has the edge when it comes to dialogue, NPC's, music, boss battles and also stands up better to repeat playthroughs. My opinion, people.
I played it through again last year and found stuff I didn't even know existed. There really is a silly amount of optional stuff in that game... it's a pity that so much of it goes unseen.
They are both excellent in their individual ways. Opinions will vary because different people look for different things in a d-mod.

I agree with you Sabre. I like Cloud Castle 2 better than Pilgrim's Quest and there's quite a couple of reasons I could give but I would just be repeating you mostly

"However, I feel CC2 has the edge when it comes to dialogue"
That is something that I like most in DMods, and if I remember well, wasn't in CC2 where there was a girl that don't wanted to go out, because she was fat. HA, found that funny.
Well, I believe I must play it again, because last time (some years ago), I got stuck very early, if I well remember.
See you all.

There is a walkthrough of it in Solutions written by PenanDink and uploaded by me.
There is? I'd better go have a look and see what is missing.
Yeah.
PenanDink said it wasn't completely finished and never will be, but too many people seemed to be stuck, just because the walkthrough wasn't uploaded in Solutions.
So I may have uploaded it too early. Sorry.

Sabre, you said you never finished PQ?
I think Cloud Castle 2 is better than Pilgrim's Quest.

I know that you added more to these lines. Pretty funny anyway.
For me PQ really shines in the devastated land, the atmosphere is really awesome. I also like CC1 a lot when I played it... It had a cozy feeling about it that caught me. I've tried to play CC2 through; but it hasn’t caught me in the same way like the first CC yet. I might be too early in the game however.
