they call this thing truth; they fantasize, obsess and lust after this and it becomes their' god.
thus, we have so many religions, cults and "faiths", and they all think that they = right and all others = wrong. generally, this will lead to the wanderers starting some war or conflict - the wars in Iraq and Georgia, for example, which are both 1.)power plays & 2.)greed displays.
the thing is, both regions are rebel countries with much oil wealth. today, oil is money, plus if you control the oil, you control the power source of all the tanks, aircraft, automobiles, trains, freight trucks, ships etc that have become such essentials in this day and age. cut the oil supply from the greatest of nations, and you have a massive population of SITTING DUCKS!
now sex brings power, escape and thrills. so do talporn, drugs, dink smallwood, alcohol, cigarettes, music, movies, cars, guns, video games, eating, having a shower, working, learning new things, winning, sport... anything that brings a sense of accomplishment and peace/excitement. ultimately, thats pretty much everything!
the world is rebelling against the abuse we have given it. mass production, destruction and resource collection have tipped the balance and catastrophies occur as a result.
I deserve an award for the TDN biggest post.

I don't know... based on a lot of the criteria listed here, I'd say a lot of what makes the world screwed up is what also makes it fun.
