Very old demo
I was going though some of my stuff and I actually found a Demo CD of Dink from 1998.
What's really bad I never did get around to playing the demo

<Guffaw> awesome.
I'm a bit curious about the lenght, but what I find more confusing is that Seth actually DID make a demo for it.
You should place it in a safty locker.

Says it's 1/3 of the original game. Planning to install it just to see the differences.
It's pretty interesting, you can't walk along walls, for example, Dink just gets stuck. My favourite part is when Martridge admits to being too old and feeble to defeat the bonca, whereas in the full version he leaves that part out, giving the impression of just wanting to "test" Dink.
It's not quite 1/3rd of the full game, though, it ends when you'd normally cross the bridge and leave Stonebrook.

I had played demo too, found in a games magazine
The same magazine distributed the freeware version later on.
I remember the game ended just before entering Kernsin though, with Martridge appearing again:
- This is the end of the demo, Dink
- NOOOOO
Is that a different demo?

that's the one I played first. Dink was like "I'm going to Kersin, they're having a parade" Then matridge was like, "No you can't, it's the end of the demo."
Wow, I didn't know there were more than one of them released. The one that I played was in a '98 issue of PC-Play, this looks like the same version:

If someone could give a link to the other demo or email it to me directly, that would be cool. =)

Thanks a bunch, that was interesting. It would seem like v1.01 was released before the full version so that people could preorder, and v1.04 was out before the game became freeware.
Yup, there are two different demos and I remember playing both of them through the Demo CDs that PC Gamer used to send out.
They now send out demo DVDs!
...actually, I don't know if they ever got around to actually mailing them out, but they have a DVD included with the retail version at least. I remember being pretty pissed several years ago when I realized my subscription was granting me CDs while the retail copies had DVDs.

I stopped reading PC Gamer years ago when they really started to cut down on the number of articles as well as the quality of the reviews becoming somewhat questionable.
Odd that they would be sending out CDs to subscribers... there really isn't a reason you shouldn't have a DVD drive on a PC by now. Hell, I had one in '97 and it ended up breaking before it ever read a single DVD.
