Awk!
I was just testing the first part of my new dmod (yes, it is going quite well ) and I have quite some new sounds, graphics, and tiles.
However, I haven't add anything, I just replaced some sounds with new ones, and so I did with graphics and tiles.
But now, when I start the mod, it loads endlessy (with splash.bmp showing) and after a minute or 3, my computer crashes or it goes back to windows.
Now I looked into my Windows folder, and I saw a weird and BIG file that was just created. It's called 'Win386.swp' and it's 110 mb!
Maybe someone could help me out, 'cause I would HATE it if this means the end for a big dmod with lots of new sounds and graphics
I have:
Pentium II 366 Mhz
512 MB RAM
Windows 98
Dink 1.06
200 MB free disk space on C:
Please help me!
MANY thanx in advance

i havent the slightest clue what win386.wsp is, but i need to know one thing, how much total space do you have on your drive c? cuz you should always leave a certain percent of your hard drive free (im not sure how much, im gonna assume about 1/4)
*wow thats a pretty bad comp you got there *
i have-
1 ghz
windows xp pro
512 mb ram
geforce3 it 500
dink 1.07
i have 8 gb of free space, and my total is 31 gb, but with all the drives on my computer combined, i have like 60 gb

I don't know what the problem is Christiaan, but is this the d-mod I'm gonna be part of? If so, what are the new GFX like?

I wanted to send the first part to everyone when finished, and, it's almost finished, but now I have this problem You will get to see it when I finished the first part though.

If I remember correctly, win386.swp is a 'swap file', which is created when you run out of RAM, or in some other circumstances. Usually, a swap file is used even when you have more than enough RAM, which defies logic, but I'm sure there is some reason, however nebulous.
Burn some CDs of downloads and such, delete those files off of your hard drive, and all should be well.

Hey, the .swp is a swap file. Ive got a tweak that will make windows use the swapfile ONLY when your ram is full. So it makes your system a lot faster, because you have a lot of ram and a slow cpu.
TWEAK:
Press start -> run
and go into the windows folder.
Open the file system.ini
and search for [386enh]. Under that line add this line:
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
1 rule: This tweak is ONLY for win95/98/98SE

Correct, I remember having a 2 gig swap file once...bad s**t. Those are also used when you computer crashes, and it kinda dumps everything from memory in there....maybe that just with windows xp, I can't remember, but either way. microsoft was alittle assy when they designed that file.

No luck
I have 550 MB free disk space now, I normally don't ever have this much.
I can easily play Pilgrims Quest (with a lot more graphics 'n stuff) but when I try to start my own dmod, it just kicks me back to windows... AWK
