Hmm, Back in the day was there not a site where you could say if you were open to betatesting dmods? I don't think it exists anymore, so if you need one, just ask in a thread.

Um.. yeah, just ask around the board. Really, there's no convoluted, crazy process to it.
Could someone please tell me what a betatest is? I'm a dead newbie. 
A beta-test is a preliminary test of a program or an application or an anything really to identify any errors or problems before the thing in question is released. (Did that rather convoluted sentence make any sense?)Its generally the last step in the testing procedure... and the beta-testers are objective testers... in that they weren't involved in its development.
Exactly right Amoebalord, here's a Wayback link for memories sake. We used to have beta testers section here as well, but it got cancelled due to a lack of interest. Apparently I asked a question about its necessity in 2000.
As an addition to that: Put in simple terms, beta testing a D-Mod would generally involve sending your D-Mod out to just a few people (two or three perhaps, maybe more for a large one) so they can spot bugs and make suggestions for improvements. After beta testing is finished and all obvious issues are resolved, the D-Mod is released and everyone celebrates.

Also a beta version of anything is usually feature complete, meaning that all intended features have been included in it. New features can be added between the first beta and the final release though. There is also alphas which serve the same purpose as betas but are early releases that are far from feature complete. Finally there is release candidates, which are intended to become the final version unless bugs are found during the testing stage. The order in which they come is: alpha, beta, release candidate.
Yesh. The alpha may also be feature complete, though. Read the article on Wikipedia for details.
Well, the rules for development releases aren't carved in stone, so if you want, sure, you can do alpha-, beta-, gamma- and hey-releases.
