how to make a dink smallwood game
Something tells me that you're not really interested. If you would you would have checked the files in the Dink Smallwood directory already. Please read develop.txt and tut1.txt first...
And if you're looking for tutorials... try 'the Rudiments of Scripting'... there's a few good ones for mapping too!
And not to discourage you, but guessing that you have little computer-background, it'll take time to learn these things - you'll need to know how to make a map and how to script the characters, objects and events that can take place. Developing a D-Mod takes time too though that doesn't have to be a bad thing.
But good luck with reading the tutorials, they'll tell you whatever you need to know, or otherwise you can post questions here (but preferably not the ones that have an answer just within reach if you only downloaded a few tutorials )

Thanks really i needed it but i know im gonna get confuzzled again...
(AHEM!) im only 13 i dont know anything... so I dont what a dink dir is or a "root" so help me with step: 1....
Download windinkedit and learn how use it.
Type windinkedit in the search thing left on this site and then take windinkedit 1.4 beta 2
well i did it and it pulled up a "untitled windinkedit" now what?
What exactly do you mean? Or did you use a frontend to open it? If that is so you have to open it with windinkedit itself in the Dink edit folder.
what? I mean this is extremely confuzzling and
what is a dir?
what is a dir?
... I don't know . Uhhm do you even have DinkFrontEnd? A dir is some kind of a thing for graphics. I don't know exactly what it is. Why do you need to know?
... You get it when you install Dink Smallwood from Official Files on the left on this site. Did you install Dink Smallwood?
huh.....all it did when i downloaded was bring up a thing...and i got dir off of the tut1 it said step 1
I don't know. I'm quite a newbie myself so it's best if somebody else tells you what to do. (why didn't I say that in the first place or maybe I shouldn't have said anything.) Not that it bothers me trying to help you but I just don't know ...
A "dir" is short directory. Often called a folder. If we're talking about the 'dir' Dink is installed into, we mean
C:\Program Files\Dink Smallwood\
which is the default. If you've changed it when installing it, you should look at the place where you've installed it. For example, mine's in
D:\games\rpg\dink
Basically, all you need when writing D-Mods is Notepad (included in windows) and DinkEdit (included with Dink in the directory you've installed it). For beginners, it might be easier to get Easy DinkC, and WinDinkEdit.
EasyDinkC is some sort of Notepad especially designed for writing DinkC scripts. WinDinkEdit is a windows version of DinkEdit, and easier to understand. EasyDinkC also has a nifty "New D-Mod Wizard", to help you get started.
For a great tutorial to get you started with things (very clear, slow tempo and easy to follow) check out The Rudiments of Scripting. It has step-by-step instructions on how to write scripts. For a WinDinkEdit introduction, check this video tutorial. I haven't seen it myself, but I guess it's good from what I've heard.
If you have more questions, you can always ask on the board, or see if the tutorial section has any information.
Good luck

The video tutorial for windinkedit is EXCELLENT. It explained how to get to the list of sprites, which ISN'T in the menu or in the on screen instructions (that I could find).
Thanks to Simon K. for doing it. You rock.

I could find it in a readme.txt that rests in my windinkedit folder, though.
Have you actually read the readme? I skipped it, might be my stupidity...
