Landscaping ????
Is there a good or bad way to do it in a DMOD, me I never know where to put the trees, bushes and rocks. So is it a good or bad DMOD if you don't add any, that is my question.

No scenery = Bad d-mod
Too much scenery = Bad d-mod.
IYou've just got to try and make a judgement yourself, I guess. Try playing some of the d-mod which are known for excellent mapping (Simeon's d-mod are great) and see how they do it.

Put lots of fir trees in your dmod and give the player the fireball magic so if he thinks that there is too much scenery he can burn half of it away!
Indeed.
No scenery = boring = bad.
Scenery = interesting = good.
Too much scenery = too distracting = bad.

My art teacher says that you are generally trying to create "balance," in one of two ways:
1.Symmetry
2.Asymmetry
So, if you have something which really stands out in the top right corner, you should try putting something similar looking in the bottom right corner (symmetry) or something different which also stands out on the bottom or left side (asymmetry).
Beyond that, you should try to create a "theme". Don't have rocks, trees, bushes, grass, cracks, sticks, mushrooms, flowers and rump hair on every screen. Instead, have one area with screens that have rocks and bushes, and another area with cracks, sticks and mushrooms.
Finally, vary the background. It is much easier and better looking than putting a lot of sprites on the screen.
For a well decorated Dmod, look at Quest for Dorinthia 2 or Wasted life.
Good luck.

I find the mapping in Eternal Suicide poor, there is jsut TOO much stuff littered about... it just feels so crowded.
I agree with Sabre, I couldn't be bothered to play it; every screen was indeed littered with sprites.
I like burning the trees too.And smashing the barrels.I'm sort of distructive I guess.
I have to agree with your art teacher. If you have too much of the same scenery it gets boring (which is propably why we start ignoring the scenery where we live until someone new comes along who hasn't seen anything like it. Even here in beautiful New Zealand we do it).
