Windemere, dead or living...
I thought Merlin said something to the effect of, "Windemere shall not exist unless someone else helps."
Did I hallucinate?
Personally, I'm no fan of the Windemere idea, since it might be discouraging people from writing stuff while they're waiting for the release.
Discuss amongst yourselves.

You thought wrong. I said exactly this:
It seems that, with the current progress, I will be unable to continue developing Windemere. So, I will be doing one of these things:
1) Starting over by myself doing things my way.
2) Waiting for another developer to help with my self-esteem and motivation issues.
3) Some of the above.
4) All of the above.
This does not leave reason for anybody who still cares to panic that development will cease entirely. It just means that, until something happens, I will continue being a depressed maniac with no [social] life. If anyone cares enough to try to cheer me up (yeah, right, I know), you know my IM. No? Well you should: it's in my profile.
I started number 1 and am quite far. The engine is already better than that it was and I don't have to wait several hours to discuss an idea with someone else. It not only progresses much faster because of this reason, but because of the fact that I've pretty much dumped backward compatibility. I just can't do very much with Seth's limitations. Yes, the new DinkC++ will not be exactly the same, but no, it will not be hard to learn the new things. It will be C-based. I don't know why I immediately think about DinkC++, but oh well.
And I really don't care if you're a fan of this idea or not. It will be finished.

I'd offer encouragement, but it'd carrom off your leathery hide like a bowling ball hitting a very large tortoise.
Sweet! It sounds like its going to turn out well. Not having to deal with backwards compatability has to be making things a LOT easier.
I applaude you Merlin. You're willing to do what needs to be done, you pick the terms.
So, despite months in progress, or however long it has been, now you are working on it alone you are making more progress and it's better?
Whilst I came around to the idea of Windemere, I don't see it being in a useable state for quite some time, and I think it has proved more harm than good.
Some d-mod authors (such as Simeon) as waiting for its release... which would seem to be quite some time away still.
But I guess when it's done, I'll be a lot less critical. Depending on if it's finished before 2006.

Myeah, it just all depends; I do have some more than basic outlines for a D-Mod but it's of an epic scale
So I could either start with the current engine and fix loads of things later (and perhaps not bother to fix everything) or make complete use of the features the engine has to offer from the beginning
I'm currently busy anyway, so for me it doesn't matter that much if it takes some time but if it's unlikely to see daylight, then we at least know we can start at any time with working on a D-Mod because there will only be one engine. Ah well, it's not like I desperately need the new engine because I have an ubergraphics pack but certain simple things like a lot more variables would be handy already =)

aww...you guys!
Merlin needs hugs!
*HUG*
'There,there,you're doing a great job!'

Like I said before, keep modding, just break it into chapters. That way you know it will get played without becoming obsolete ( not that Windemere is meant to make Dink Obsolete, its a latteral gain). I think I may even take someones advice and expand/cleanup Chaos.
Even if/when Windemere first comes out it may not be bigger and better than Dink, but it will be stable and expandable. ( I do have faith in Merlin that it will be that much better anyhow.)

If it makes you guys happy I've implemented DinkC++. And it works.
Does that mean that you`re closer to finish the project?
Whatever its status, it will probably end up better. Dink was Seths' first big program.
Hey Merlin, is .png still the prefered graphic?
Hey Merlin, is .png still the prefered graphic?
Yes. PNG is the preferred graphic format and OGG is the preferred audio format (MIDI is supported too).
To use sarcasm over the net effectively, you need to make it obvious. It's very easy to misinterpret things sometimes...
How could you not know that was sarcasm. You would have to have negitive efficientcy or something to work on a project and get further from completion.
But somebody not as computer literate as most here might believe that in implementing DinkC++, Merlin had to take a few backward steps.
And what you say is not strictly true. Sometimes, the more you do on something, the further away you become from completion. Especially in the case of adding new features etc.
