Forum Tweaks
I tweaked a few things with the Forums that have been bugging me for months.
1) The borders for the messages should now look solid in non-IE browsers.
2) Nested has been tweaked so it doesn't force you to scroll horizontally in Firefox/Mozilla. However, now all of the messages don't go to the right edge, let me know if this is a problem.
3) New messages will have a gold background to go with their gold borders.
Also, fixed the issue with old awards saying they would begin soon. I removed the links

Oh. Oh! This looks terrible!!
But don't worry, it's just something one has to get used to and then it will be like all cool.

Eh.. sorry to be a pain.. but the gold clashes quite badly with the blue in my humble opinion .. I quite prefer to have the old boring blue back (possibly with the gold borders).
The messages not going to the right edge is not a problem, but it does make the page look messy..
Redink, I don't know what forum scripts are behind this, but you could probably tweak the width to work properly in IE & Moz based browsers just by using CSS properties rather than setting the width in HTML TD attributes.
If you need some hints on how to do this, drop me a line.

Aye. If I set the width to 100%, and I set margin-left it looks fine in Firefox, but with Internet Explorer the whole table moves right that number of pixels.
Or I could create a div around the table and do the wonderful margin-right, and that works in Internet Explorer, but it moves the whole table over with Mozilla.
Also, the Gold is *only* for new posts, and it is supposed to stand out.

Redink,
I'd need to know a bit more specific info to help you, but maybe it would be easier (less boring for everyone else) to do this off-board.
Thing is I currently don't know which table would be moving and which you're trying to set the CSS on as some twenty tables are used on the page (when I just now did a count of this forum page).
Can you PM me a bit more info ?

Oh.. and by the by.. how "new" would "new" be for the gold to show ?
(just out of interest)
(just out of interest)
Whether a post is 'new' or not is based on three timestamps that are in your cookie. And no, I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it tends to work fairly well (i.e. posts that you haven't read yet tend to stay new until you read them)
No they don't. If I go away for a few days, come back and try to read all the new posts at some point they stop being new. It's very annoying since especially in large threads unread posts that don't appear golden are sometimes very hard to find.
hmm.. this is gonna be quite interesting then as cookies on my PC get deleted quite promptly or at least once a day... or are they session cookies which use the time when you last logged out to check for "new" ?
But if you put your board style on message board you can see which posts have/haven't been looked at (each post will have a different Reply number).
No, it is far more bizarre than that. All I know is that it generally works for me. I think the main idea was say you go to the board regularly, then you go check it once but then don't look at any messages. If you come back later, those messages should still be marked new, but for only the next 10 minutes.
Why don't you just base it on a last-seen time for the person?
Thank Goodness...thought my computer had gone bonkers again...
Go to board. Last time seen is now. All new posts are marked as read.
I could track it on a post-by-post basis, but that is far too expensive and complicated.

Other forums take, perhaps, a second or two to load on my DSL.
Could be the code, I tried to make this forum as optimized as possible.
Oh thank God! I thought my computer was freaking out!
I dont mind these changes...the shortened posts look a bit odd, BUT I do notice the pages load twice as fast. If that is Redink1's doing then I thank him as visiting this place is much easier, because of it.
Great job!

Really? The pages load twice as slow for me.
EDIT: ...but only half the time. WTF?

True

Hmm, I never had that problem in Mozilla.. and yeah, now the messages only go as far to the right as the text in the message (ie, long sentences is more width).
3) New messages will have a gold background to go with their gold borders.
Hmm, I only noticed a thicker border in IE and not a gold background in any of the browsers
Also, fixed the issue with old awards saying they would begin soon. I removed the links
Nice one!

The gold background is now very, very dark after people complained.
The pages loading slowly appears to be an issue with Gamespy inserting some sort of ad code into the page (NOT the banner), and their ad server is slow.
The message boxes not reaching the entire screen does annoy me, but the other improvements are fine
Aye, everything is nice, but I liked the lighter gold background, change it back!

I like the border now that its darker...before it clashed with the background like Dink and Milder.

Redink,
My compliments. The newer background is much milder on the eyes. Thanks for that change.

Er, ah, oh, un, oops? You might want to fix *that* potential problem. And er, sorry, I forgot to login, so I can't edit it.
Whoah, where's the submit button? Oh, it's way, way, way over.
/edit. Ah, good, it's fixed now.

i come back and what is this? the boxes are messed up dude. not very nice on the eyes. learn your freaking desktop publishing rules. its all about crap - contrast, repitition, ALIGNMENT, proximity.
ok this looks better. i must say now they look rather nice besides the freaking ALIGNMENT problem

Lol, actually this is pretty lame and off-subject, but has anyone noticed that there is Milder Tabasco?

Your dang right...
Isnt it ironic Milder is not only a hero weaker than Dink, but something "milder" is less strong?
My humor is certainly milder than most of the other Dinker's...right Milder?
