Russia: Under attack.
This is possibly the worst thing I've seen in my lifetime, even more so than September 11th.
Taking a whole school hostage, not giving anybody food, water nor medicine for days? And when some children "escape", and start running for safety; SHOOTING THEM!?!
Man, this makes me sick.

It's awful. If this happened in the US, all of the hostages would end up dead, but the Russians know how to handle this stuff. Kill 'em all and leave no one whining about police brutality. If you lose a couple hostages, that's too bad, but much better than risking them all by getting into a firefight. You remeber what happened with the theater...
It's very sad. Talking about it here won't make a difference though. I hate it how ignorant most people are, and I'm sad to say that I'm like that too. I wish I could make something to prevent things like this from happening, and I hope that some day I actually will.
Ya, I did hear about that...its just horrible.
I can only hope that either the Chechyn's leave Russia alone or that the Russian's leave Chechyn's alone and that the countries can ignore each other...fat chance though.
Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Death count ocer 250, injured numbers over 700. Ouch.
the people who do things like that are just freaking idiots who shot be given the death penalty. This is really horrible, no words for it... May the souls of the one's that fell rest in peace.
I jut read the headlines, seems I was wrong. The Russians really screwed this one up. It took four hours to storm the building, and half the hostages were wounded (not counting the 200 dead.) Moreover, some of the militants escaped! It seems that the attack was unplanned, and prompted by an explosion which took down part of the wall of the gym.
The militants set up pretty well. They barricaded the windows with desks and such. I'm glad the Russians seem to be just shooting them on the spot, though I'm no believer in the death penalty.

Milo you don't know anything about Russia. They are gonna be furious now and because of it they have a reason to throw all their army to Checneia and blew it to pieces, I tell you that it'll happen...
I have heard about this too, it is realy sad
I heard that the attack started when the ambulance should pick some hurt people up, then the explosion in the gym came and the terrorists began shooting at the ambulance drivers.
A norwegian journalist was in the gym after the explosion, he said it was many hundred injured children there

Take a moment to say a little prayer or something for those that were lost & their families.
May God bless and keep them - pray for peace worldwide!!

Latest count: Nearer to 300 dead, about 700 injured. In other words... just about everybody they took hostage.
And the story we have for how it started is hostage taker blew himself up (many were wearing suicide belts), taking out a wall. This allowed some children to flee, and they were promptly blasted in the backs with shotguns.
The Russians then had no choice but to storm the building.
I don't think it's fair to blame how the Russians handled the situation. I don't think they could have done much more. As for it lasting 4 hours? What is your point? Some hostage takers had holed themselves into the basement, with children with them... how do you get to them?
Especially when the whole school was booby-trapped...
This is a huge tragedy, but one which couldn't be predicted or countered effectively.
And one small point; Putin says about 10 of the militants were from... a certain middle eastern region.

THis makes me sick.
This is why we need to take the situation by the balls and kill these fudgeers, no matter what race sex or whatever before they start blowing up innocent fudgeING KIDS!
I mean Kids?! WTF. Most kids are helpless and scared. Take me hostage, I guarentee I would at least he a kick or a head butt and a big FU in before they took me.
fudge terrorismn. All terrorists are pussies and I have a M-16 just waiting to get used.

If you are on school you don't have a weapon (I hope that at least). And if some terrorists come whit AK-47 or something like that I don't think you will be brave enough to kick one of them in the head!
And I think it is brave of the kids to run. I am a kid myself (using kid tickets almost everywhere) and I think I would get shocked and unable to move if my school got attacked by terrorists.

You know, for once I agree with you, WC. This IS the most atrocious, horrifying piece of terrorism I have ever seen in my life. It is worse than September 11,the Bali bombings and the Spanish trains put together. It is sick that Al Qaeda have joined the Chechen rebels. I do hope that mother Russia pours her commisars into Chechnya and blow it to hell and back.

To me, it's sicker than 9/11. Maybe not as horrifying, but definitely "lower". I mean making kids drink their own pee? I only hope that the militants who "escaped" are actually in some secret dungeon having ice picks shoved into their testicles. It does seem unlikely that anyone would escaped a surrounded building, but the Russians might well be that incompetent.
Funny how you dis the russians when any given country in the world is vonerable to these types of attack. This is a war and the only people who stand to get hurt in the innocent for terrorist think they die and go to heaven for this crap.
It wasn't incompetency shown by the Russians. With over 1000 hostages trying to escape (apart from those who, God rest their souls, died), countless families and other civilians surrounding the building... how easy do you think it is to keep track of these people?
And how do you think you stop somebody who is wading through a crowd, firing a weapon at random, and is strapped up with heavy explosives?
You would think that, horrible as it sounds, they'd detain people escaping the building.
They didn't even have enough ambulances: they just weren't prepared. The Chicago Tribune described the attack as "haphazard". It was a tough situation, and the Russians had to improvise, but that doesn't mean you can't blame them for screwing it up. It could have gone worse, but it could have gone better.
Apparently the terrorists had been setting up the explosives all summer... scary.

I don't mean to disrespect the actual soldiers. They're heroes, unquestionably.
Ha ha! Who's barnabyd!
He agrees with WC, lol
Look at his profile!
