Doom 3 is out, and it looks kick ass. It scared the craped out of me just reading the review in PC Gamer.
Gosh. I just have to buy that. I still play Doom I , II and Final, they're just so good.
I checked the screenshots at gamespot.com ! Those were simply pieces of art...All that gore and monsters...It´s funny when thinks about those Doom I graphics
OMG I cant even believe Doom 3 looks that...real. Its scary and Im worried about how it will SOUND! I hope we all have hearts in good condition or we could have a heart attack playing.
Sincerely,

l33t is cool and fun... in small doses.
Doom 1 and 2 are both lame. Thus I have no interest in doom 3, but some friend of mine will propably get it so I'll get to play it...
Hopefully it's better.
Hopefully it's better.
doom 1 is freaking awesome it like started a whole new genre, yes i know there were shooting games before doom, but it set the standards. just all that switch finding shenanigans was a load of crap.
The first two Doom games are awesome. There is something about slaughtering hordes and hordes of beasties that appeals to me. Doom 3 does not seem to play quite that way, though, which is why I am not as keenly interested in it... though I probably will pick it up eventually.
Doom 3 I hear is slightly more subtle than the previous ones, with less run and gun tactics. You have to be more stealthy in this one, and the plot, as well as your objectives, must be discerned from files you download as well as NPC interactions.
Also, if you are a fan of FPS's, how can you say doom sucked? It revolutionary in its time, and was one of the first videogames I ever remember playing that scared the Bijesus out of me.

You lucky fellows. In Australia its gonna be released on November the 1st (3 months away.

I'm not sure if the original Doom started a new genre, perhaps you're thinking of Wolfenstein 3D.
Nothing like shooting Nazi's and demon's from Hell to release that pent up anger eh?
Seriously, both of them started the action genre that continues to rule the PC game market to this day. I still remember shuddering in fear as I SAW the cyberdemon from Doom 2...

I really like wolfenstein, but dislike doom...hmm.... I wonder what's with that. (though even in Wolfenstein, only the first "episode" is really good..that's only 10 levels)
Wolfenstein is legendary, Doom is great, but DUKE NUKEM 3D kicks backside . Come get some!
OMG
I watched my cousin play Doom 3. The graphics are the closest thing to real life I have seen so far. The new design of the monsters is hard to describe...your too busy shooting them and hoping you dont die to really take a good look at them! Also, the body's slump to the actual layout of where they fall. For example when a dead body falls on a staircase its head will rest on one of the stairs...its quite awesome!

While I enjoyed Doom and Doom 2, and loved Wolfenstein 3d(and it's sequel... or was it a semi-sequel... I cannot remember), I'm not very interested in Doom 3.
To be honest, the gameplay just sounds pants, man. This is DOOM, man! You should be running screaming into masses of Imps, with your chain-gun roaring.
Not pansying about with a torch... pfft.

I'll likely get Doom 3 when I can get my hands on it.. but if it can take away my current interest in Unreal Tournament 2004 is a different story
I finished Doom 3 within a day ... and I dunno, I dind't find it that scary at all. I jumped a few times... but I think I jumped more in Half-life thanks to those dang headcrabs.
The beginning is a bit startling, because everything is dark and things start jumping over at you and everything, but after the first half-hour of fighting it starts to feel a lot like the old Doom (except less maze-like map design).
I've been playing through the Thief series of games over the past few weeks, so maybe all of that playing in the dark just made me immune to Doom in the Dark.
After a while I stopped messing around with the flashlight because I could see well enough to kill. Unless it was pitch-black... but most of the enemies have glowing eyes.

Hmmm... I downloaded it and played it but... I don't think it's that great... I mean.. it looks great, but for me killing the same way whole the time gets pretty boring... Ah well, I guess I wasn 't ment to play doom3
I have to admit Im kinda disappointed, but I didnt play past the early part of the game.
Are their any particularly frightening monsters I have yet to see? Really I think the enemeys and their designs are the only real reason I wanted to play.

Thief (II) is scary as hell. Not only does it have moments that make you jump, but it just generally has a suspenseful feeling. When I first played the demo for it... lets just say I had to reupholster my chair.

Then you havent seen the cinematics on Warcraft3
And the graphics on the characters in Doom 3 lookes pretty much like the guys in Elderscroll 3: Morrowind

You mean... can it be? That the CINEMATIC GRAPHICS of an unreleased game are... but, surely not... better than the IN-GAME GRAPHICS of a game thats just been released!? Are you insane? That is technically impossible, surely! I mean, just think of what it means. For years to come, graphics will continue to improve, getting better year upon year.
What sort of mad world do we live in?
And the graphics on the characters in Doom 3 lookes pretty much like the guys in Elderscroll 3: Morrowind
YOU dare mention the Unholy game? Do you WANT to be hurt? Do ya? Punk?

Correction: Warcraft III has been out for just over two years.
Err.. well... y'know... the spirit was right... in game graphics can't be compared to cinematics. Yadda yadda yadda. Don't know what I was thinking really... but there you go, that's just the way things are sometimes...especially when you don't think before you post... but nevermind, you'll live... as will I, no doubt. Unless WC hunts me down for making such a foolish mistake... oh I don't know.
I'll just go sit in the corner. Pass the bottle of painkillers and quart of whisky someone.

In 10 years everybody will be laughing at the current realistic graphics. Hip Hurray for text games!
And I will still be looking for the latest kick-ass rougelike out there that will still run on my win98 box.
ASCII forever!

Y'know, I checked "Tal's 100 Best Games" out of the library recently. It's good, but the annotator (IM Bernard Cafferty) can be an annoying hero worshiper. I quote:
"16...N-Q6?
Rather naive. Black could hardly have thought that Tal would allow this if it were any good."
Oh yeah, and as you can tell, it is written in descriptive notation (although it has puzzles at the back in algebraic!) And only posers like descriptive.

Does anyone know what were talking about? Methinks no one does and your all just commenting so you dont look stupid.
I like text based...it will never go away as long as there are poor people to play them.

Yep. Got the proper mods installed? My Ass-Kicking Boots 5200 have adequate space for 'em.
ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery) is a cool ASCII game, and I suppose tomenet is a cool ASCII multiplayer game, though I've never heard of that one.

Ive heard good things about Nethack... or however you spell it.
I got convinced by a friend to play an ASCII game called Cities of M'Dorhia. I decided to after reading the last set of posts. I'll re-post soon saying whether I like it or not.

ADOM is hazardously addictive. I had to delete it from my hard disk to make me stop playing it . The game's got unlimited potential.
Playing Doom makes me feel dizzy... I dunno why....

In ADOM, I always play a high elven archer. Taking out enemies is really easy far away. I defeated Kranach and the whold bandit settlement when I was level 1!
People here talking just about Nethack and ADOM? Sokay, I guess, but why limit yourself? Slash'em, Angband, Zangband, and most importantly TOME are all great games! Most I think have tiles, if you like that, and if you want multiplayer, you got's mangband. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
PS. My grey-elf mage will crush your puny high-elven archer. And don't make me bring out the trollish healer.
