Are you interested in making D-Mods, but simply can't find the motivation to do it? Or are you quite good at making them, and want to find a new challenge? Tada, this Contest might help.

Basically, the goal of the contest is to make a D-Mod where the player controls a vampire, which hasn't really been done or talked about that I can recall, and could offer some interesting situations. It also allows D-Mods to compete against D-Mods in a Contest, instead of battling everything in DOTM contests.

The Rules

Deadline: All entries must arrive at redink1@rpgplanet.com or be uploaded via the Upload Form before July 1st, 2004.

Voting: Voting will be conducted by the Senior Staff within a week of the deadline.

Prize: A tangible prize will be awarded, but it is still unknown what it will be. In any case, only one prize will be given to the top D-Mod, regardless of how many authors contribute to it.

If there are less than 3 entries, the contest is basically cancelled, and no prizes will be awarded.

Specifications: The main player character must be a vampire, in that they are required to drink/eat blood to live and/or win the game. Not drinking blood will kill the player and/or make the player lose the game. None of the other standard vampire attributes are required.

The main player character can be anyone or anything. You could have something simple like Dink get bitten by a vampire and suffer the consequences, or have a vampire pillbug stalk Windemere trying to suck everyone dry without getting caught.

If you are going to have multiple player characters, the focus MUST be on the character or characters that are vampires.

Also, the main player character must be a vampire for the majority of the game.

You are not limited to the standard RPG genre, you could make a puzzle, arcade, or action game at your own peril.

Size: There are not any size limitations, either in map screens or file size.

Misc: If you have any questions, or think some of my rules are a bit silly, please post a comment or a message on the board.

Oh, and because there is a prize, and the voting will be conducted by the Dink Network Senior Staff, any entries by Senior Staff are not eligible.

Previously released D-Mods are not eligible, nor any parts of their map and/or story. For example, Sharp couldn't take Milder 3, just changing Milder to a vampire, and submit it for the contest. However, if you wanted to have something like a SOB scorpion as an enemy (or character) that is allowed.

The point of the vampire theme was to make it so people couldn't just submit a D-Mod they've been working on for months. So if have been working on a D-Mod for a while that fits in the rules, please start a new one.

You can submit more than one entry. But beware: you may end up 'splitting the vote', and allowing another D-Mod to win.

Required to eat/drink blood? That will be hard to script...

Question:
Is it allowed to make a Dmod with let's say, 2persons.. or is it restricted to one person?

I'm actually currently working on a vampire dmod. It won't be released anytime soon though.

Maybe someone should make a standard "blood-sucking requirement"-script, that everyone can use or adapt?

You can do it, redink!

It doesn't have to be that advanced or anything.

//dumbpeasent.c
void hit(void)
{
say("I am drinking your blood!", 1);
&life += 5;
}

//bloodonfloor.c
void touch(void)
{
say("Yum, random blood on floor!", 1);
&life += 1;
}

//spawndiefromnoblood.c
void main(void)
{
loop:
wait(30000);
&life -= 1;
goto loop;
}

Update: Also I modified the specifications so the player doesn't have to be killed from not drinking blood, just they have to drink blood to win.

This promises to be fun.

I know, it's so cute, almost sounds as if I was the most active contributor here or something.
(Almost makes it sound as if I'd enter the competition. Well, I *would* have one month of the summer holiday and I miss dinking... we'll see.)

That timer script will not work for long... Other scripts could interfere, it wouldn't stop during conversations (causing you to "lose" if you talk to long) and after loading a game it will no longer be there.

Mmmm, pizza.
Cooltext has a way of making scripts survive loading saved games. The conversation thing can easily be checked by adding one more global.

Sorry Magicman, I forgot about Cooltext

Still, I like the idea of having one general blood script that people can work with or throw away of they can make something better.

That implies yes I guess.
