The Dink Network

ok, during hte last few weeks I have recieved a HUGE amount of spam. we're talking "increase your sex life with this all new herbal suppliment", and even heaps of emails with virus's (man linux is cool). On top of all that, i keep on getting "subscribed" to various mailing lists to which i have never been to!! things like "hackers forum", and various other things I have absolutely no interest in. Thats fairly normal, except some of the emails had bits from teh dink network in them!! it was a excerpt from teh forums here (blue roses post, or rather sabretrouts reply to it). Now, i have several ideas:

1.- someone hates me (most likely), and decided to try to hurt me by posting my email addr all over the net, and trying to infect my computer with virus's

2.- I have had a severe memory lapse.

3.- some other explination I have yet to think of.

If it is No. 1, please, just cut it out. the virus's will not work, and i can easily filter out the offending emails.

I have not yet bothered to go through all my exim logfiles on the server which collects my email, but if need be i will. at least then i can tell from which country it is comming from.

anyway, if it is any of the other possable ideas, please just ignore this email.

(this is really annoying, esp as it takes my dayly email count over 1000!! thats a LOT of emails. most of them don't even get read, but because spam messages are not yet caught with any filters or digest rules, they all end up in my inbox

OMG!! That sounds VERY annoying! Did it really have my post on it? That seems to make it pretty much certain that somebody from Dink is involved. Well, it may do anyway.

But who would be so irritating?

It sounds like a combination of things.

The Klez virus sends things to/from random e-mail addresses in the internet cache, and I know the subjects are taken from the cache too. As far as I know, the actual messages are usually pre-defined, but perhaps a new version is getting the messages from the cache now too.

But outside of the viral e-mails... from what you described it does look like somebody is being a silly foo.

I've been getting huge amounts of spam too lately.. But I guess they just use programs that collect email adresses all over the web..

But sometimes you get funny emails, such as: "Mr Ed gets head" and "My stretched anus" .. could do without 'em though

Huh? Nobody said anything about you sending e-mails. I think tullisti said that one of the e-mails he recieved included my reply to one of your posts, that is all. I think...

Same here, I useally get like 3 spam messages in my rpgplanet account and I got on today with 56!

no, i don't think it was eith sabre or bluerose. I did think it was funny that it included a message i had never even SEEN before...hmmm..

and i can rule out virus's, I am using linux, and a rather onscure mail reader (anyone ever hear of sylpheed-claws?? thought not

I would have suspected my http cache i run (squid), but as i said, i had never even seen that post...hmmmm.....
