And so it was written, many a year ago, that there shall be one to lure them all unto utter desolation and immolation.

I think it'd be rather cool if this Recondite had some desolate immolating going on, but I fear that isn't the case. Just more of the standard drivel, and now in an almost-weekly occurance. Oh dear, oh my.

To read more, click the comments. Poll comments have returned. There is now a file-uploading feature here on The Dink Network, which should make the lives of staff and file authors much more pleasent. Some other things are discussed as well.

Feature: File Uploading

For those with eyes made up of billions and millions of tiny eagles, you've probably noticed there is now an 'Upload' link on the menu to your left. It is the practical equivalent of using a nuclear bomb to get rid of those pesky flies in your house: hell, it might be a bit overkill, but those flies are pesky!

Basically, adding files is a pain in the ass, as any staff member can attest. First, you have to check your e-mail, and then cast away unto the void billions of spam messages wanting you to enlarge your breasts and your rod in some odd synergy of absolute horror. Then you have to download the file. After making sure its legit and is zipped correctly, you upload it to FilePlanet. Then you add the information into the database manually in a time-intensive process. It probably doesn't seem like much... but many a file have waited for more than a couple days in my inbox just because it isn't very exciting to go through this boring ritual of boredom.

So now, people who have files to release can use the handy-dandy file upload form, and the staff member just has to download the file and click a button (if everything is ok). Basically, files will be processed *much* faster, which will be nice. Plus, they're automatically mirrored to imgoingbed.com, which is always nice.

Hopefully someone uses it soon, otherwise we're going to die of a drought of D-Mods, which isn't good. I mean, droughts aren't good, D-Mods are good. Good D-Mods. Good.

Quick Hits

Ok, the DOTY isn't up yet. Hasn't even been though about. It should be, but I honestly forgot about it until just now. Gah!

The DOTM will be up later tonight, wee! There was only one file last month, boo!

The Weird D-Mod Contest entries will be up tomorrow. So far 2 have straggled into my inbox of enlargement, and a 3rd was promised. I still don't know what the prize will be. If nobody has any objects, its probably going to be pretty much whatever the winner wants. I'll have to discuss it with the other staff members.

If you still see the Christmas banner, hit Refresh.

Hmmm... is there a limit to the size of the file you can upload?

I clicked on the link but I don't have a file to upload yet... But I'm thinking of working on something... new... now that the Weird DMOD contest is done. Thought I might try and do a trailer in Dink.

Sorry, but it's not Necromancer....

I don't think this new "Upload" function changes anything. All of the staff are just very "sophisticated" AI anyway, aren't they?

Yeah, the limit is 50 MB. There are actually two steps to uploading files... submitting the information, and then uploading the file. If you do step 1, and then come back later, it still makes you do step 2.

Gah, I need to upload the updated Elemental Swords pack, sorry, I completely forgot.

Right now it will over-write the previous version. The administration interface is still pretty shoestring, so I need to work on it a bit.

If I upload a file today and next month I fix a problem and want to upload the fixed version , will there be two versions or can I use the same file name to overwrite the previous version ?

Sort-of. Not really. See, when you upload a file, it is put on a private server. Then the staff can download it from that server. Then when we click a link, it transfers it to FilePlanet and imgoingbed, and automatically tries to add a new file to the database. With updated files, staff will probably have to do it the old fashioned way.

So in other words... its a problem for us to deal with, don't worry about it Upload away.
