Download Counter Working Again
The Download counter was broken a couple weeks ago; I think it is fixed now.
Didn't even notice it was broken. Most likely because I'm not really checking the download section very often these days.
But Redink1 did notice. His all-seeing eye is closely monitoring everything and everyone. He is everywhere and he is everything. So respect him and worship him. Remain in his grace, lest ye be thrown in the doom-pit of talporn.
It's interesting to sort by most downloaded and traverse the resulting list. There are quite a few outliers that don't seem to make much sense. Some more recent files with highly-skewed download counts might be explained by people mindlessly downloading the first results in the in-game downloader sorted by date without knowing what to expect, or sorting by name and downloading everything starting with "A". Certain MIDI packs seem to be quite popular, most likely due to their relative obscurity. The rest, however, remain a mystery. I can't fathom why a save editor has hundreds of downloads, for example.
I'm surprised the downloads on ... His Ancestor 1239 are so low. I always felt it was a genius move on the author's part to have those ellipses at the start so it would be the first D-Mod/file everyone who browsed the site ever saw.
Thanks for taking care of the DN redink1 !
It ackshually has more downloads than SimonK's Creeping Sands, as well as Marpro's Lumbergh Legacy despite those two having much higher ratings and possessing an actual game with substance within them. Incidentally, your classic adventure "EvilDink" somehow has more hits than Wesley's "If Ducks Ruled the World", Erwin's "Day of the Carcass", and Meta's "Quel" among others...
I was a genius to make EvilDink too. I made my contribution to the 'edgy kid' world early.
when's the sequel
i need to know if dink can rule hell
i need to know if dink can rule hell
That's actually not a bad idea. Lemme see what I can do.

Indeed. Sorting by most downloaded at the moment reveals the somewhat obscure "Fun with Palettes" has almost eight thousand downloads, only a little behind Fishy dot dmod. Unless there's been some sort of Amiga revival while I was asleep, I can't fathom it.

wait, how the jesus duck does fishy dot dmod have that many downloads?
that makes it number 2 most downloaded dmod, even above cloud castle 2. that is 105% impossible. what broke?

I want to believe it was my shootpost in the "Best mods for each year" thread getting out of control. The popularity of Fun with Palettes may be explained by an influx of vision-impaired individuals to the site, most likely former fishermen, who accidentally download that while attempting to find Fishy.dmod, as they both start with F. That's all I can think of, even if it's a load of carp. Fish puns may just be back in vogue though.
Okay, fish puns may be fashionable once more, but lets try to scale them back a little ... okay?
It seems that Dink and the Chins isn't exactly floundering at the moment either.
Maybe you are a little hard of herring, I mean hearing yeoldetoast, but I thought I made it clear that we should avoid any and all comments piscatorial.
Abalone, I mean Ah baloney... I don't know why I bother to try to sea, I mean see, what I can do to keep things at a higher level around here.
