So as you all know, I got a few problemos with my old pc. That's why I changed to a new(MUCH BETTER) one. The only problem is that I had to reinstall windows on my old laptop (on which the dmod files were on). So now I wish to know if it would be a good idea to start over again or try something new.

As my first dmod, believe it or not, it would be an open world rpg, much like Dink Smallwood, but with richer, bigger, cities. Don't believe it is just some crap talk I'm saying because I really liked the way it turned out. I educated myself in the ways of D-modding, and made sure everything looked nice and neat. I even finished the first town. I used Oldschool Runescape music and (to no surprise) the main runescape theme on the main menu. I EVEN CREATED MANY CUSTOM TEXTURES (made in paint, but decent) AND STRUGGLED 3 DAYS TO CREATE A DIFFERENT PLAYABLE CHARACTER( in which, in the end, i succeeded at ^-^). Not to mention the fact that the dmod had an intro, so it didn't look raw and weird. I was going to ask some of you for help for creating some bossfights.
I planned on releasing a demo on my birthday, but now I guess I can't.

So does it seem like a good idea to try to create again? Maybe you have some suggestions, or maybe you want to offer help. But I really want to know your opinion on all of this, and if it seems like a good idea. If you want more details about anything, just ask.

Only you can judge that.

As a rule of the thumb I say never release your first DMOD, but there have been many people who proved that that rule doesn't apply to them. Ultimately the problem most people (certainly me) have is that you don't want to redo all that work. I would just get demotivated having to redo everything only to get something you already had, I rather would start work on some new idea that has been brewing in my head and reuse some of the ideas of the first DMOD.

But again, not all people are like me. And that's a good thing.

I'd also try that, but I still have high hopes for this!

Scratcher's jealous that my first dmod, Dink's Quest in the Icelands, was superior to anything he could ever make. He's just trying to prevent more first dmods smashing his everything.

Can I please get some serious opinions on my idea? Don't change the subject. I know this community way to well. You start a thread on Llamas and the next second everybody mentions cows! So please, give some opinions on my idea.

I just know that open worlds are a ton of work, I dabbled with them in my project and it is just a ton of work. More linear RPGs are much less work, are easier to write good stories for, are easier to balance and easier to debug. Open worlds are also much more difficult to make and take a lot of self-dicipline, this is mostly because working on something that is continously unfinished until the very last moment requires a lot of things to keep track of and a lot of abstraction.

On the other hand, while a fully linear rpg is much easier to make, it is also much less interesting. A bit of openness makes DMODs come to live, just keep the world size manageable. Of course how large is still manageable for you is impossible for me to say. But apparently you think the DMOD is pretty good:

Don't believe it is just some crap talk I'm saying because I really liked the way it turned out.

If you believe that, follow your heart. You're in a much better position to judge than me.

Everyone should get a pizza for free in each week.
If you want to make a good DMOD i suggest to get to know about making some good story, comedy, progress, gameplay balances and making good quests. Play some other RPGs such as Witcher series, Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask. You may also check up other people's mods for Dink. Iplaydink's Three Amulets is an enjoyable mod and a good example of having a nice balance for gameplay while adding some nice features to the point it feels like a Legend of Zelda game. You should start by doing some small things and make sure that it is enjoyable. carrie2004's mods are a good example for being simple and a little generic, but at the same time enjoyable while presenting some small challenge.

In the past i've been making mods without even checking out some good examples i've mentioned and ended up doing large projects which eventually stopped making it.

huh, yeah, that may be a good idea. I have some important exams coming up, but after I'm done with them, I'll start a short nice dmod!

Make it a dmod where Dink has a giant sword and spiky hair and every time he attacks, it plays a loud "HYAH!" with a loud slash sound and all the enemies are really easy because he is the most powerful swordsman in the universe and he's really sad because no one is a challenge to him.

But then in the end, he fights Milder Reborn who is an even better swordsman and the "HYAH" *slash* becomes even louder and each hit triggers a giant explosion of rainbows so you can't see anything and you're also both maximum speed. And the music in the final battle should be the most overdramatic anime-sounding crap you can find.
