Quest for Dorinthia - Special Edition
Downloaded Dink on the iPad some months ago and fired up some of my favorite DMOD's. I was playing QFD and admiring how boring I thought it was all these years later and then hit a showstopping bug that wouldn't let me finish it. I fired up WDE+ and began fixing things... and fixing... and hacking... and slashing.
I realized how boring Athello was. Saw how you could wander aimlessly and find nothing. There weren't enough interactions. There were lots of hardness errors. The list goes on and on....
Special Edition probably isn't correct as it's more of a complete and total overhaul. More story lines, way more quests, more weapons, more towns, more secrets. I think at the end of the day the REAL QFD has been created... 12 years later.
Beginning next week I think I'll be ready for beta testers so if there are 3 or 4 people interested let me know.

Sounds tempting, but I don't think I should really devote time to beta testing right now. I look forward to playing the game though - I honestly didn't like the first Quest for Dorinthia (the second one was great), it was too empty and boring, as you mentioned.
I agree, Quest for Dorinithia bored the shoot out of me. There was NOTHING to do!

Funny.. this was my first one and so always had an inflated pride with it. During my replay a few months ago I was like ... what the.. this is really lame and boring. Hopefully, I've removed the lame and boring. We'll see. For those interested just email me (bszczytko@gmail.com) and I'll shoot you over a build next week. You rock.

Few things. First: t think there is a spelling mistake when that tree says his name. First tree says he is Trizard (if that is his name), and second talking tree named him Trezard (I'm not sure forthis, but check it out).
Second: That bridge that leads to pillbug island (right in the beggining) is narrow. Since there is a screenlock, I've got stuck a few times, so I had to start over.
Third: Those little pillbugs killed me while I talked to pillbug boss. Although possibility for this to happen is small, I am one big magnet for misfortune, so feel pity for me goddangit!
These are not really bugs, but they are a bit annoying. Just mentioning them. I heavn't played the whole thing yet.

Ahh... compassion all over my body... dude this is so wrong... anyway I'll post if I find more of this tiny errors.
First want to thank you for checking it out. Made those quick changes you suggested. In hindsight not sure why I made the bridge at that angle. Please keep me posted on anything else you find. There is at least 4 hours of game play so I wish you luck.
Ahh, the bridge. I instantly got stuck on that too, but managed to free myself with the console before those pillbug dinks could eat me. A few annoyances from me as well:
1. There are a lot of dialogue lines said by the wrong sprite (e.g. something a tree should say is said by Dink instead).
2. Most of those small patches of grass seems to be hittable, which isn't a problem with melee weapons, but it's annoying if you get a spell later, since spells won't fly over the grass.

THIS IS WHY YOU TEST! So funny as I've been staring at these screens for months and never noticed. I've fixed what you mentioned but will double check my other scripts here. Thanks for the help ... keep letting me know everyone.

I'm going to save myself for the finished version, as I haven't played the original game.. but I hope you get enough testers anyway, keep up the good work!
Played a little more, until I got to Moravia. It's been so long since I played the original that I can't directly compare the two, but I've been enjoying this new version well enough so far.
A bug: I got stuck in a screenlock on screen 367.
There's also an annoying graphical glitch with the sword, where it looks like Dink turns to the wrong direction when idling with the sword in hand. This is because the sword graphics aren't loaded in dink.ini. Explanation from the original game's dink.ini:

I did the optimize Dink.ini in DinkEdit which ended up changing the entire thing... I wasn't sure what went bananas and what didn't. I made these changes you had and removed the screenlock (oops). Thanks again! Fun?
Added a newer file version for those interested in trying it out. If you're biased because you think it's just some fresh paint on an older crappy DMOD - you'd be very wrong.

I'm looking forward to playing this, because I thouroughly enjoyed the original when it came out But I'll be honest and say I have little interest in playing the alpha/beta version and will instead enjoy the whole thing at once when it's ready^^

I know that uhh... errr.. none of you have been waiting for it but QFD SE has been uploaded for review. In addition QFD II is getting an update as well.

I am looking forward to this. I'm not actually playing many DMODs anymore, but I am going to play this one.

Don't sell yourself short man, I'll be playing it too and I'm pretty sure there will be others, even if it is a remake.
Kyle is right, I don't really remember playing it before, maybe I never got to it, I'll be playing the new one though.
Thanks Kyle... pretty safe to say that the original game is almost unrecognizable. Call it a new DMOD if you want. The SE took nearly 6 months to make. The original? 4 weeks.
But for me the original was a big inspiration back when it was released So this is kinda special to me
