But I haven't played it yet because my oldest brother's been more or less hogging the game. But, I'll be able to play it later when I get home from church later.

But, from what I've seen, the graphics and gameplay look amazing. Anyone else have it yet?

I unfortunately can't because my computer sucks with almost every modern game.

From what little I know and seen from other videos, the gameplay is very similar to Oblivion, with a few things mixed from Fallout 3 and a few new game mechanics. Overall, I think you and your brother will have a great time with Skyrim. Just be careful not to screw up the beginning.

I didn't care much of this game, but after I saw my brother playing it, I got really interested of trying it myself... Maybe going to buy the ps3 version!

I've been wanting to get into it, but I have a feeling I'll just get lost without purpose :/ Like, I love all kinds of RPGs deeply, but open world RPGs are something I just haven't found the right way to play yet to enjoy it completely...

Anyone who's played other Elder Scroll games that can give me some advice on how to have a more "guided" approach to playing through? I don't mean just following the storyline, because that would defeat the point of open world, but like, do I really have to pick up all that silverware and such? Do I have to loot all the identical body armor of the million guards and bandits?

And I have to say, from the 15 minutes I've played Skyrim, the interface is sooooo meant for consoles it's frustrating to use on PC.

Hmm, I've always foind that to be the most enjoyable part. Simple chaotic wandering; pick a direction, find interesting places, stumble upon high level enemies, etc... I also have the tendency of playing the pack rat, but that's incredibly unfun. Just resist the urge to pick up everything, and drop that goddang platemail, even if you could pawn it for thousands in a shop.

Got to playing the game. It's pretty good, though my computer's kinda slow with playing it. It's not too much of a hindrance. The gameplay is good, the controls easy enough, and so far pretty fun.

I like to start out (Oblivion) with the Daedirc collection - it's like antique shopping I'm waiting for my CE of Skyrim to arrive from UK, and for my pay-cheque to arrive to pay off my new rig. I'm finding I'm increasingly disinterested in video games these days, so I hope I don't get too addicted XD

the interface is sooooo meant for consoles it's frustrating to use on PC.

After playing Skyrim for a few hours, this, definitely. It's not only poor, it's sloppy (you have to use different keys on different menus; sometimes you can use the mouse, sometimes you can't; sometimes the menus just don't respond). Kind of perplexing, considering games are still developed ON the computer, you'd think they'd put the slightest bit of effort into it.

At least you can count on the modding community to come up with decent interface overhaul mods within the month.

I've played the PC version, and the controls aren't that bad. It takes a while to get used to it and I will admit that it may even be a bit choppy. I set the controls to be the same as Oblivion's the the only problem I have with the game so far is the abysmal menu system. The leveling system is great, the combat is more realistic, and I really like the idea of Dragon Shouts.

Okay, I've really started to enjoy this game a LOT

One thing that's bothering me though (aside from the evil UI)... Is there any way to know what level the enemies are? Or whether I should be doing something later instead? Like, there was this giant frost spider that was extremely hard to kill, but it got stuck at a door so I was able to kill it from safety... Felt like I was cheesing through it, but if I can't see their level or difficulty, how am I supposed to know where to go or where not to go?

Well, Sabre, I suggest you pay close attention to the black icons on your compass strip and try to explore those systematically. When you've discovered these locations the icons turn white and on your map it will say "Cleared". I've found as a new Elder Scrolls gamer that that's a good way to at least have some direction

Good to hear.

I'm also getting to like this game more and more as I get further along. Even the menus are bearable, after I figured out how to hotkey weapons/spells to the number keys like in the previous games (you need to add them to your "favourites" first).

I'm playing as a mage character, since being a live flamethrower is just too hot. Runes are also superhot, after you take the perk to be able to set them further away. The enchanting/alchemy systems are really cool. Enchanting is overpowered, but that's nothing new... I don't think there's much appeal for powergaming in these games; there are too many ways to exploit the system after you get familiar with the way the games work.

The carry weight limit is painful, that's probably the one thing that annoys me most and makes me take a break from time to time xD I'm working towards 50 pickpocketing for that +100 carry weight perk. That'll make the game more bearable again.
Part of the reason I'm constantly overburdened is because I drag along all the books, hoping to one day display them on a bookshelf in my house or something, but until then I'm stuck with over 75 pounds of books in my inventory >_<

I was wondering though, if I put the books in a chest in someone's house for safekeeping, will they stay there or will they steal it or just disappear after time? If not, I might be able to temporarily store the books in someone else's chest and retrieve them later xD

I haven't played Skyrim, but in the previous games you could stash stuff and I doubt they've changed it because that would iritate a lot of people. Some containers are randomly generated and their contents would reset after a few (in-game) days so you could lose stuff if you put things inside them, though. But empty containers were safe. Or just dumping stuff on the floor..

I'm so tempted to get Skyrim dsfnkdsflsdkfn. I managed to ignore Portal 2 and Deus Ex 3 but Skyrim is harder to ignore. I just can't afford the time right now :\

So, my brother told me to play for him, he was like level eight and had done like one quest. I really didn't know where I was going so I just decided to kill things I saw, so I killed a mammoth and he was like "Whoa, I've never seen someone kill one of those before." Then I went to kill a giant, and had him down to like 10% health, but he hit me once and I died. He also had no idea he could sell things. He was level eight with like forty coins. I got him to almost level 12 with like 3000 coins. I didn't even do any quests.

Before I played Oblivion, I spent a couple of weeks planning my game, because I knew I'd probably only play it once. The UESP wiki is very well organized and gave me a ton of information about character creation, leveling, quests, etc., enough that I was able to make a flowchart telling me what order to do all the quests in. The articles were nicely laid out with the quest prerequisites at the top so I wouldn't have the story spoiled. The wiki had some info on safe containers that wouldn't make your items disappear.

It looks like the main Skyrim article is equally well organized, so I bet you can find a lot of help there. It has links to the other Skyrim sections of the site. Here's the article on containers. It doesn't have much right now, but I'm sure it'll grow.

Agreed, particularly once you start carying around craploads of Dragon Scales and stuff, I'm dying to improve my smithing skill so I can make me some Dragon armour.

I've found, so far, the best way to work around the carry weight limit is to get a companion that you can trade items with - I got Lydia for becoming the Thane of Whiterun.
She can carry a bucketload of stuff and she's totally wicked in a battle. At least after I loaded her up with a full set of Dwarven Armour.

Thanks for the advice people, I'm gonna head straight to that Steed Stone and get the +100. Together with the pickpocketing +100 and the player housing with containers I should be good. Then afterwards I can get my Mage Stone again for the skill ups.

And Someone, how can you ignore Portal 2?? It only takes like 6 hours to finish xD

Question: Is elder scrolls like final fantasy? i mean in that all final fantasy's sequels are all tottaly differant stories? Or is it all the same story?

Skyrim's story is completely different to the story in previous Elder Scrolls games. There are parts that link in, and those who have played games like Morrowind and Oblivion are obviously going to notice many story ties, but it's a different story.

Arg... please don't... Because Dink's graphics are crap, we can make d-mods with crappy graphics and no-one will notice If the graphic's were like that of any modern game, no d-mod would be able to come close.

Anyway. Bought AC:Revelations when it came out. Never played TES-games before, but might get Skyrim too. From what I've seen, it should be epic!
