Taking over the Dink Solutions
Hi,
I'd like to pass on the Dink Solutions to a new maintainer.
How do you think we can do this?
This includes taking over the hosting.

Hmmm, I'm not certain of the meaning of this thread. Is it to ask how to pass Dink Solutions on or who would like to maintain it? In case of the later option, I'd be glad to maintain Dink Solutions. I, along with many others I'm sure, can check it now and then to approve any walkthroughs. It isn't terribly popular these days, so maintaining it would be easy.
Does this mean you are leaving the community though?

Can't say I would be willing to pay for the hosting, shame though it is to see you handing over the site, reliable webmasters are hard to come by.
If other stuff doesn't work out, you could ask redink1 to take the site back under TDN's wing, I guess?

Isn't the site hosted on dinknetwork.com now? Or is that just a trick with domain names and it's still hosted somewhere else?
I can host it if you would like. Email me if you are interested.
Let's clarify.
I want somebody else to maintain the Dink Solutions because 1) it's good to shift maintainers once a in a while, to give fresh energy and goals to projects, 2) Dukie left ages ago and I haven't written a walkthrough in a while either, 3) currently the Dink Solutions only rely on me and will disappear from the surface of Earth if I don't pay the next month's hosting bill.
Indeed, solutions.dinknetwork.com is an alias ("CNAME" in DNS slang) to my dedicated server (aka. when I reboot that server, Dink Solutions is down ). To change the alias, contact redink1.
I can give access to the current "dinksols" account on my server if there's a problem with hosting, but I think it'd be best that the web hosting relies on more than one single person.
Technically the website is built using the SPIP CMS, with custom templates to manage the *cough* design and the translations. Of course, the new maintainer(s) can change this. Keep on eye on security updates whatever CMS you use though.
The contents of the website can be downloaded in real time through rsync rsync://solutions.dinknetwork.com/dinksols-www/ (90MB) and rsync://solutions.dinknetwork.com/dinksols-dumps/ (database - 6MB).
We have no formal author agreement or copyright license on the walkthroughs, but I doubt any past contributor will complain. It would be good to formalize this and explicitely use (for instance) Creative Commons BY-SA for new walkthroughs.
So far, yeoldetoast is offering hosting and Skull is offering maintenance. Great I'd rather keep the details on this thread rather than by private mail, so that everybody can see where this is going.
Feel free to ask any other questions about DinkSols

Alright, I have it set up at http://dinksols.ultraprison.net with a new logo, and Skull's existing account is now that of an administrator. All site functions seem to work.
What now?
What now?
What now?
Now would be a good time to explain all my cool new powers and how to use them and that kinda stuff...
You know.

Dunno who's able to change it, but the link to Dink Solutions in the Partners section still links to the old one. Also, as well as the guest counter, the view/sign guestbook links also don't work. Also, if you go into the About section of the new Dink Solutions, there's a link in there which goes back to the old website. Sorry to be sounding so negative, don't even know if you've started on fixing stuff like that
EDIT: Guestbook doesn't work on the original site either though, and I actually have no idea what it even is/was, so... Yeah

Skull, your login is skull3 from what I can gather, if you don't remember your password, let me know. Once you login I think you can figure it out.
Redink1 is in charge of the Partners links, and the DNS entries as Beuc stated above. He seems to be incredibly inactive in the running of this site, and that's unlikely to change in the near future. I should email him anyway... The hit counter seems a little bit unnecessary in the modern age, but I can get a new one for the kitsch value. The guestbook links seem to work for me (they are full of spam anyway). Thanks for letting me know.

Keep bugging redink1 so he changes the DNS
Meanwhile, I made my site redirect to http://sols.ultraprison.net/
I'll probably disable my site entirely in a month or two, at which point the DNS will need to have been fixed.
