Oblivion was rigged with problems and bad design. Let's hope they clean up their act and make it feel like Morrowind again!
^ So true. Oblivion was filled with good intentions poorly executed... Skyrim does sound utterly gnarly. The Nords were always my favourite race

Well, Bethesda has stated they are using a new engine, which is certainly auspicious for Skyrim

What was wrong with the old engine then? I always liked the elder scroll games so I don't really see why a new engine would necessarily be better... Of course the combat could be better, but that doesn't necessarily require a new engine.
From what I have heard Skyrim is set to be more dark in tone than the previous versions, for which I feel some reserves. I've always liked fairytale-like environments for RPGs. Morrowind was spot on in that respect though, so maybe I'm worried for nothing. All in all definitely a game to look forward to, if my computer* will be able to handle it.
*my computer meaning my parent's computer, I'm nearly 100% certain that my 1.5 GHz Celeron laptop will die of fear when it sees that game.

Yeah... Morrowind had much richer lore and game world, Oblivion focused more on improving the gameplay and combat (with variable success...). I hope they seek to combine the best from both games, rather than just continue the Oblivion route (since that's the best-selling TES game to date).
Also, for the love of god, get more voice actors! You don't need Patrick Stewart or motherducking Boromir, not if you could hire 10 other competent voice actors for the same price.

Argh! Don't mention voice acting. I've always wanted to do that as a job.

I hope they won't try to voice-act the whole dang game again this time, like they did with absolutely no success with Oblivion. Morrowind didn't need every single piece of dialogue spoken out, it had a better voice for dark elves, and it all worked out very well.
Also, hopefully Skyrim won't be a MMO...

It's a conspiracy! People around me want me to play Morrowind!
But yes. I hope the game world will be more Morrowind-like. The bit I liked about that game was really the world, its history, its different cultures... I didn't really care about the main quest or subquests, except where they exposed some interesting cultural/architectural/archaeological/biological things. Combat sucked, but I didn't really care about that either. The in-game journal/quest log was a nightmare to work with, and that only slightly impeded me...
Though Vvardenfell is rather privileged to have many different geographic areas, which makes an excellent basis for different cultures and, with that, different architectural styles, belief systems, etc. On the other hand, Skyrim, the province of the Nords, seems rather... homogeneous in comparison?
Then again, reading into it for a bit, it seems to have a rich history, and an interesting creation myth, and apparently there's always a war going on about who's the successor of whom. We'll see what we get...
Though I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it. It's what scratcher started the thread with: my PC probably can't handle it, and I need money for other things. Still... this is me showing interest.

Yeah - Oblivion had all of what, 2 voice actors? 1 male 1 female
on a more serious note, I hope the NPC conversations are a little more intellegent: npc 1 "I saw a mudcrab the other day" npc 2 "Some people worship daedra" npc 1 "Terrible creatures." npc 2 "Have a nice day."

I agree, I know people are all psyched about the Nords, but the only thing I could think of was: "Oh, good, let's go someplace with generic viking fantasy, not someplace that has original lore and exotic cultures like Elswyr, Argonia, or Valenwood."
I saw a trailer which put the audio of that trailer over the video of the ME3 one ... it worked

Werewolves are boring. Tal is way more mysterious and scary.
I will be surprised/disappointed if Skyrim doesn't have werewolves, with Solstheim basically feeling like a part of Skyrim and lycanthropes dating all the way back to Daggerfall.
Being a werewolf sucked balls in Bloodmoon, though, (they had fixed stats) while becoming one in Daggerfall pretty much made you into an unstoppable badass. Hopefully they also bring back wereboars. =)
