What was wrong with the old engine then? I always liked the elder scroll games so I don't really see why a new engine would necessarily be better... Of course the combat could be better, but that doesn't necessarily require a new engine.

From what I have heard Skyrim is set to be more dark in tone than the previous versions, for which I feel some reserves. I've always liked fairytale-like environments for RPGs. Morrowind was spot on in that respect though, so maybe I'm worried for nothing. All in all definitely a game to look forward to, if my computer* will be able to handle it.

*my computer meaning my parent's computer, I'm nearly 100% certain that my 1.5 GHz Celeron laptop will die of fear when it sees that game.
