TES Oblivion PC Tilde Key Problem
Yeah, the tilde key is supposed to bring up the console, but it won't. I've looked everywhere for a fix, and I have no idea what to do. I've gotten to the first oblivion gate already and I suck too much to survive, so I need TGM to get through and I am not starting over.

What I did, was go backwards. And slaughtered civillians.
Running from the law is a good way to level up
If your Tilde key isn't working, and you're trying to input a chat code or something, my suggestion is don't. RPG Fighting games like that require patience and grinding.
Though in all honesty, Oblivion was easier to grind in than Morrowind

Grinding won't necessarily work because the enemies level up with you in Oblivion. So if your character build sucks your character could potentially become weaker relative to the enemies as he levels up.

Try the Ring of Console?
Cheating in a Bethesda game is a must... Mainly to get through the million and two quest-breaking and otherwise irritating bugs you'll run into.

The Ring itself does nothing. You need to install OBSE which ALSO does nothing. What the hell? Isn't there any way to fix my friggin' tilde key!?
Change the control settings?
There's no assigned key to bringing up the console; I can't change it.
Does your tilde key work in other programs?
Yesh. And actually, I got it to work. Turns out Oblivion's console doesn't work with Windows 7. The "Ring of Console" Mod did actually work with OBSE. Once launched by the OBSE.exe file, simply by adding the ring to your character's equipment will bring up a tiny..tiny..TINY little invisible square at the bottom of the screen; Literally just a white line!! WTF? In Morrowind, the console was a huge grey box! Here, it's just a line! AN INVISIBLE BOX WITH A TINY TYPING LINE!
