The Day after the Middle Night

As some of you maybe know, I've not been working on HH for a little time. You see, I've been writing the storyline of Middle Night 2 up, and have been very busy with it. It seems like I don't know how to work on one D-Mod at once. I will get back on making HH soon, though. But who knows, maybe I'll release the MN 2 before HH. Only time will tell us.

But here, is... well you could say a "poem" of what is to happen in the next 2 parts of the Middle Night -series:

"When 1000 years have passed from 779 AC, it is the birthday of us all. When 1000 years have passed from the born of the Middle Night, it is our all's birthday... our born to what fools call as Heaven. Our born to the Paradise, where all is better. One shall remain... one shall remain for his acts against the Lord. For his acts against the Middle Night. That one shall be the first human to be standing on the 5th World and shall live there, until his dying day."

Say, what do you think of it, and I'll get working on my Mods more faster.

To be completely honest?
The poem was confusing and didn't make much sense, what with the over-use of the word Born.
But it certainly sounds interesting, looking foreward to the sequel

ExDeath, it is not meant to make sense. The same "poem" is gonna be in a note in MN 2 so it would make people wonder what happens (it is much easier to understand when you play the game itself).

Interesting, but mostly confusing really. I guess we'll know what it means when we play it, like you said.

So, I changed the topic name. The reason to that is that I've decided to work on The Day after the Middle Night before I'll finish HH.

I have finished the storyline of the game and I've made two cut-scenes.

Story:
The story is very hard to explain. It is going to have so much elements, but here's the basic story: 15 years later of the first game's happenings, the island where Hotel Middle Night once was has been build into a great, small village. Young boy named Chris, with some of his friends, is going to the old haunted house. The kids start looking around the house, but strange things start to happen.

Gameplay:
Gameplay is not as great in this part as in the first maybe, but there are certain elements that people will (probably) like. The gameplay's gonna be more like "go to the certain screen and a cutscene takes place". But this part of the trilogy, is meant to tell the basic storyline, and the only way to do that is by cutscenes.
The third part is going to be a complete opposite again. It is going to be full of gameplay.

In some points of the game, you are shown past. You can play with characters like Tony Jacobs and Rose Jacobs. The character that you "normally" play won't be able to see the past, though. It is only to be shown to the player.

The gameplay is also gonna contain some certain "scare the player" -things, but not as much as the first part.

Map:
The map is going to take place mostly inside "The House".

Style:
Romp

Release Date:
Hard to say... but if I work on it every day, it should be completed somewhere in September.

My first question: What on earth is HH? Heil Hitler?

Secondly I wasn't really fond of the first Day after the Middle Night, I never even finished it. Maybe I'll try to finish it again later, maybe I'll feel different about it then. (Might even write a review if I feel like it.) But hey, if other people are liking it, who am I to complain.

The gameplay's gonna be more like "go to the certain screen and a cutscene takes place". But this part of the trilogy, is meant to tell the basic storyline, and the only way to do that is by cutscenes.

I disagree. You see in writing there is a principle called Show, don't tell. The basic idea is that you have write in such a way that the reader knows what is going on by knowing the actions and thoughts of the characters instead of the writer telling you everything.

Something similar is true in making DMODs. The best stories are made by letting the player understand the situation by doing things, rather than by cut scenes explaining everything.

Now I'm not a very good storyteller myself, but take my DMOD 'The Scourger'. If you enter the desert, how do you find out that you may only cook in the eastern side and only fry in the western side? There isn't really any cutscene telling you that, it's just that people say that to you when you talk to them... That's also explaining the story.

HH means The Historical Hero.

Also, I never knew of such a thing as "show, don't tell", but it seems like I have something similar to it. You see, text always appears to the up of the screen if the player is thinking something. The player thinks in the game many times, revealing his feelings and thoughts on the situation. So, in one way, I've already made that kind of thing to my game.

Also, you definitely should play Hotel of the Middle Night (part 1) through, because if you don't, you won't understand anything of the 2nd part. And also play it through, because its' a good game.

I think displaying thoughts is more suitable for a book than for a game, but whatever.

My real point was that you shouldn't rely too much on cutscenes to get your story told. Normal gameplay can also tell a story.

Oh, and I'll probably play through Hotel of the middle night 1 later today. See if I remembered it correctly.

Wohh!!
good news, Skull ^^

Hotel of the Middle Night is one of my favorite DMODs, nice atmosphere... it was scary
I think that Dink is really fitting for this kind of genre.

Kids going into the old haunted hotel... cutscenes with jumps to the past to get the picture of a bigger main story..
looking nice

This is back in makings. Trying to get it done for the non-combat D-Mod -contest. No promises, but mostly a goal atm.

Wasn't there a rule that you had to start a new DMOD for the contest? In the past there sure was...

Tag - Umm.. tag, you're it?
In your poem did you mean birth and not born? I could understand that better
And yes - try to make your character do things that reveal the storyline and not have heaps of reading for us, that keeps your dmod flowing, as although I am an avid reader, I for one hate a lot of dialogue to read when its in a game. Personally I want to have fun and play not read. Looking forward to part two

Skull did say it's "Back in the makings". This probably means it was cancelled/on hold indefinitely before the contest. Is it really wise to shut out productions like this? D-mod creation stimuli are rare as it is, if this brings more d-mods to the light of day, that sounds like a good thing to me. I think the rule stems back from a time where a d-mod was released weekly and it would be easy to adapt it to fit the contest rules and try to win. But now, I'd say the first priority is to actually get enough contestants

Kyle is correct. The whole D-Mod was actually deleted, and I started it from scratch. It still has the same storyline, but you get the idea. So this is a new D-Mod started for the contest.

You feed the madness, and it feeds on you.
Yeh, I was actually talking to Skull on Windows Live Messenger a few weeks ago, and I asked him how the sequel to HotMN was going, and he said he only had it planned, but nothing was created for it yet.

By the way, still looking forward to this Dmod.
