I remember finding out a few months ago that some game review site had a style very similar to mine (rating gameplay, style, and story indepently, then taking a sort of average.) This surprised me greatly, because it really doesn't seem like a great system. It drastically overestimates the importance of story, and some game elements can be very difficult to classify (with dmods, new weapons can end up contributing to both gameplay and style, if they add new graphics or sound.)

I do prefer "my" system to those which rate sound, graphics, gameplay, and story as being equally important, though. If you don't like the way a game sounds, you could always just turn off your speakers. If you don't like the way a game looks, on the other hand, this will constantly detract from your enjoyment. And if you don't like the way a game plays, I can't see how you'll have any fun at all.

Really, the best way to review a game IMO is to detail its features without judging them, then provide a "personal" score at the end...
