dang that mermaid! Help!

I hit the mermaid with the fireball and now she dissapeared (no saves before), so after I take the long path with the row-boat to get to the rock where she's on I have 3 options:
"Tell here you've never been...." which just sends a thunder at me.
"Hit Her" which makes me unable to do anything whatsoever (wtf?) a bug or what?
"Leave" which doesn't give me anything...
What do I do? I need that thunder magic!

Shouldnot have killed the mermaid, she gives you something good. If you have not saved anywhere before, you start the game over again. Remember in all SimonK games to save in several different spots, therefore, when you make a mistake, you don't have to start again. I learnt the hard way.
