Stupid Penguins, Carrie's fourth D-Mod, is a short adventure in which Dink sets out to vanquish the penguins of stupidness, which are crapping all over a small town. The premise is as simple as that.

Considering that Carrie has released a handful of D-Mods prior to this, ones which seemed to be of a decent quality (at least, from what little I remember), I was somewhat disappointed by this D-Mod. Small mistakes common of D-Modding amateurs were abundant, such as screenmatch problems, tiling unpleasantries, minor hardness errors, and some grammatical errors. Those are all somewhat minor, though, I suppose. The only major problem I had was that the D-Mod is simply too short. In the course of about 15 screens, you leave your house, you go through a town and buy a sword/fireball (and perhaps even a super fireball if you can somehow gather up the money... I did not come close), you head north, and you kill only about as many penguins as you can count on one hand. And really, it's all a breeze, taking only about 5 to 10 minutes or so. The purpose of a romp is to be quick and easy, true, but I found this romp to be a little too much so.

The D-Mod is not a complete waste of your time, though. The new graphics are quite good, with cute beavers making a return from Carrie's previous D-Mods, and incredibly large, bloodshot-eye-possessing, peculiar-noise-making penguins being introduced (though one may wish that the penguin animations were more fluid). Also, the music is entertaining, despite changing too often and feeling out of place now and then. There are no major bugs that I know of. And finally, even if it wasn't as strong as it should've been, the D-Mod feels as though the author put forth some effort, which cannot be said of many crappy D-Mods that flood the Dink Network's file system.

Basically, Stupid Penguins is a D-Mod that could have been much longer and much better, but it serves its apparent purpose well enough: to be a mild amusement for a few minutes. If that is all you wish for and substance is of little importance, you shouldn't be too disappointed.
