There are some good midis here. Many of them have been used in dmods, too. Several would work really well as fighting music, while a few wouldn't work as any music. Other than torture music. The good midis easily outweigh the bad ones, though.

My impression of this pack is that the author took good music and tried to turn it into computer game music, which is mighty hard to do. I mean, if you played the fight music from FFVII on the radio, I'd wonder which studio moron decided to play it. On the other hand, as fight music in a computer game, it took about a month to get boring. Similarly, many songs which are quite good in "real life" might seem amorphous or even dull in a game. That's sort of the case here. Most of these would be good (some quite good) if played live with vocals, but I couldn't imagine a lot of them as game music. Tracks 3, 4, and 7 are quite excellent both ways; 3 and 4 could be town music, and 7 would be excellent for fighting towards the end of a dmod. The unfinished tracks were pretty cool too: no reason you couldn't loop 'em.

Overall, worth the download, even if you don't plan on using them.

A second midi pack from the DN's resident midi composer of rock, Joshriot. 10 tracks with a somewhat descriptive title, plus some unfinished tracks (I didn't bother to listen to these).

Track 10 was quest... a little too fast and fairy like for me. As there wasn't a description of suitability of any tracks I didn't bother with the rest.

Songs are a vital part of all games and therefore I think writing midis should nearly always be applauded. Joshriot's midimeyhem are pretty good.

Now, what is so good about them?
I liked that some of the midi's sound alike but call up moods that are different. I'm not sure if Joshriot did this on purpose, but it's good to have a joyfull midi but also a sad or suspenseful midi that has a similar theme. Furthermore, some of the songs are really experimental with an odd ritme and I can imagine using the small midis of less than one minute when Dink meets a new character who doesn't justify a whole new song.
What didn't I like?

I think only some of the midi's justified the use of drums and beats. Using drums and beats samples often makes midi's sound like evolved elevator or shopping mall tunes, instrumental versions of popsongs which normally would have vocals. I'm not really a fan of intrumental pop with the exception of some new wave classics.
So overall midimeyhem scored a 7.5
