A short DMOD with not a lot of explaination or nearly enough save machines. Has some nice touches with the Dragon Hunters and Dink helping Dragons.

Graphics: Modifed stone giant which was good. Nice version of the church using the standard huts. Would've like to see the dragon carry Dink - can't remember if this DMOD came out after SOB, if it did, the author could've used those graphics here.

Map: Composition wise very nice. (Also interesting use of invisible blue potion bottles to map out hardness of buildings instead of using the hardness editor) Some errors in rooms such as the first weapons shop, you could walk behind the benches and get to the non-functioning stairs.

Story: Very light on, and some scripting errors. You get told about the wizard giving you fireball magic, but he doesn't say anything except Hello Dink until after you've started the "quest" (and I use that term loosely) for the axe.

Music: Oooo not the dreaded songs midis... ahhhhh! Also I've heard the Mission Impossible theme too many times now (I used a different midi version of it... maybe that's why )

Gameplay: Not bad. At least the monsters didn't die in one hit all the time, so I thought the balance was good for fighting.

Overall: Got a moment to relax and play a DMOD that's not too easy... then this is the one for you. 7 out of 10

Dink has to repair a bridge.

Storyline and map: The task is simple, but the storyline is well worked out. The map is nicely made.

Graphics: The man in church wears a golden cross, the axe is gold too. The stonegiant has changed colour.

Music: It is alright, but it sounds familiar, like I've heard it before.

Good: The church definitely looks like one, but is made from different graphics then the church-graphic. The way to heal is different. It rains at first, which was nice to see. There are several surprises in it: the dragon scene is nice, as is the fact that the man who wants the axe isn't where you expect him to be. The cave entrance and cave look very good and the sprites inside make it more challenging. The endfight was different from other endfights; a nice change. There are in some houses separate bedrooms where you can't do anything, and at first that seems strange, but then you realise those are there because the people need to sleep too, so that gives it a realistic touch.

Not so good: After an intensive search for a savebot, dying a couple of times and therefore having to start all over again, I discovered you can save by just pressing the esc-button. It would have been nice if that was mentioned in the game (just for the sake of those who sometimes don't go through the readme.file before starting the game - like me with this D-mod!). Furthermore some small hardness-errors in the weapon-house, and there is not very much conversation going on.

Remark: I have no clue why the title is Dink Blackwood, since there is no reference made in the game to this surname. The author states that this D-mod is about a duck-farming-boy on a parallel planet, but no references are made to that either. The title: Dink has to fix a bridge, would have given a better idea about the contents.

Overall: An enjoyable D-mod.

Fit for: If you want to play a short, but nice D-mod.

DinkKiller is wrong about the name. "Blackwood" indicates that he is a black baker who has a lot of sex.

The original graphics and tiles are used very well. The houses have beds, bookshelves and other things they should have, and the landscape has the same quality.

Most of the game is well scripted, but Dink crossing the river does not look authentic. There are some hardness errors, but I found only one in the tiles, near the cave entrance. It is probably the only bug that can force the player to start over.

There is no serious story, but the gameplay is mostly the same anyway.

The first, third and fourth MIDI are fine (I like the MI theme, but this is the stupid Limp Bizkit version or something), too bad they did not play ingame for me.

Tips: Save from the escape menu. There are a few secret areas with potions. Do not enter the cave unless you have almost full health. Try to avoid the spikes when you can, and save the green mushroom for the boss.

Overall, this is a good romp. With just a few fikes and changes, it could get more than 8 points from me, now it must stick with 7.

Christiaan's review cuts right to the heart of things. This is a very ordinary dmod. On the other hand, I didn't encounter any real bugs... so perhaps it's a little above average.

Gameplay: 7
The fighting is relatively balanced, but still too easy. The RPG'n/puzzling component is even easier.

Style: 8
Actually, there's some cool stuff here. Good decoration, new cave/water tiles.

Story: 5
You have to fix a bridge...

Overall: 6.7
Not much to say here. Authors should not look at this as a classic example of a romp. Matoya or CC1, with their emphasis on gameplay, would probably be better.

The world could always use more heroes
Why is this hero called Dink Blackwood. It takes the joke out of the original Dink's name. Anyway, this is a okay little D-Mod. Only one save machine that I found. The coolest new grapics I saw was the rain at the beginning. Other than that and the water rock golem nothing is new. Piotr, next time make it more interesting instead of boring and a few more save machines.

Storyline 7.0
Map 7.0
Graphics 8.0
Music 7.0
Plot 8.0
Lasting Appeal 7.75
Overall 7.75 or 7.7

I recommend this D-Mod to people who like 20 minute adventures.

My first review:

Plot and Storyline: Dink needs to go to town and find a way to have a bridge repaired.

Graphics: The priest is modified with a golden cross, it doesn't look that good but it's ok, any attempt to change graphics is a good mark in my book. The woodcutter has a golden axe, which doesn't make sense because he is just a woodcutter. The stonegiant is blue, which is good addition. The rain effect is great for dink, so that is a good point too.

Music: Good music, doesn't distract from the story. The x-files music at the boss battle is not necessary though.

Good: Great effort with the church, really good use of alot of buildings, it is one of the best made buildings like that I have ever seen. The rain was good. The mushrooms are cool. The idea of the dragon carrying you across is good. The cave was good, the enemies are a welcome challenge. Awesome idea with the save anywhere idea. The houses upstairs, like birint said, are great because everyone needs to sleep.

Bad: There are hardness errors and bad depth que's in the lumberjack's house and the fountain as well as the forest. It's short, even for a romp, but I'm not taking any points away for that.

Overall: An fun dmod that everyone can finally not gripe about.

Summary--This is a very short board with a lot of creative elements (music, enemies, items). If you don't mind the lack of plot, it is a great DMOD for its length.

Music--9.5. It wasn't amazing, but it was new, which was enough for a short DMOD. I hate old music, and there wasn't any here.
Plot--6.5. The alternate universe theme is lame. I liked the brief interactions with the dragon, but the plot was almost nonexistent. It was short, as others have noted; it was so short that it was a bit unsatisfying.
Gameplay--8.5. The sword and fireball spell were free instead of requiring effort. I liked the new enemies (including one enemy that used an old graphic but had a new attack routine), the hidden enemy, and the simple secrets.
Difficulty--9.0. Non-combat challenges were nonexistent, but the combat was just right. I almost died twice (on this board with no save points), largely due to there being narrow spaces and fast enemies that made dodging challenging. The boss fight was especially good.
Other--There were no bugs that I found, although there were a lot of irritating typos. Eating different types of mushrooms was cool. There were no new weapons or spells.

This game is as average as can be. That's a good thing
GRAPHICS 7.1: Nice weather, nice details. Nothing special though.
SOUND 5.9: I don't really like the midis. They're existing pop-songs. bleh.
GAMEPLAY 6,6: Nice enough, fighting and searching. Also bugfree. As I said, average.
LASTING APPEAL 5,6: A bit too short for me.

It was a short DMod, but a bit fun, I like the music, nice weather in the start, but there were some bugs in the room with the sword sign, too bad there wasn't a save function, but that proberly wasn't need to in such short game 8-) Fun game, but i don't think i'll play it so many times. Pretty good, i say a 6.9
