Posted by redink1 on Friday March 1st, at 07:39 AM
Joshriot has releaed Happy Colors, a... um... thing for D-Mod authors. Run it like a D-Mod and move your mouse over some things, and it tells you something to do with colors. Hmm.

Awards: February 2002 DOTM & 2001 DOTY Results
Posted by redink1 on Friday March 1st, at 07:48 AM
Go vote now for the February 2002 Download of the Month. There are not too many downloads to choose from (February seemed to be a very slow month).

The 2001 DOTY voting ended... and I'm faced with a dilemma. FIAT won the D-Mod award, but Easy DinkC and WinDinkedit tied in Development, and Dink Smallwood French and Playthis tied in Miscellaneous. So I'm not sure whether to have a face-off voting round between those that tied or to just let them share the award. Let me know what you think.

Dink Community Quotes.txt
Posted by WC on Monday March 4th, at 06:19 PM
Well, since I have nothing better to do after my surgery (6 - 9 week recovery), I've decided to make a quotes.txt file. (If you don't know what a quotes.txt file is check the main DinkSmallwood directory) The main goal of this is to make famous people in the Dink community make total fools out of themselves. So if you have anything to contribute. E-mail me. Please include the quote, the person who said it, and the person it was said to (if applicable).

Example: "Nobody said this quote" - Said Null to Void after nothing happened

Look at the comment section for rules.

Discussion SIX : Poll Discussion
Posted by Kyle on Tuesday March 5th, at 10:05 AM
This week I want to do something special. Linking to the recent poll, I'd like to give everyone a chance to discuss what other activities could be held here at the DN. Since most people have a positive view about this I expect to see MORE replies this time. This time there's more to read in the comments.

March Story Started
Posted by WC on Tuesday March 5th, at 05:46 PM
Well, the Story for March has been started. For those who don't know what the story is about, listen up. The story is started by a member of the Dink Network who writes the first chapter, then the chapter braches off into two options. Then, anyone on the Dink Network can choose one of those options and add onto it, which their added on version also branches into two options. The next person that reads that will once ending the end of the story line can write the next chapter and that continues in a forever loop. The story doesn't end, and by the end of the month there are several 100 different stories and every one of them are wackier than the next. Have fun!

Nothing wins the February 2002 DOTM
Posted by redink1 on Friday March 8th, at 06:15 PM
Yep, nothing won the February 2002 DOTM. Kinda sad, as hardly anything at all was released in February... come on guys (and gals); start releasing stuff, for this month at least

Quest for the Pig... Dink's Vacation... weren't they supposed to be released in January? Perhaps they will attain legendary 'limbo' status that FIAT had while in development? And OkalyD said something about a demo release in February (if I remember right).

Though last month we were supposed to have been given a huge, huge, huge chunk of chicken to chew... but the stupid chicken man didn't show up. He said "Aye, February 2002, that be the month (hiccup) for that big chunk of chicken. Well.... maaaaybe... (hiccup)." Dang Chicken Man.

As Good As Eternity Final
Posted by WC on Sunday March 10th, at 11:16 AM
Tyrsis just released a new 'final' version of her epic d-mod As Good As Eternity. This is Tyrsis's first d-mod and if I may say so my self, it's pretty dang good.

In Other news the quotes.txt project I have been working on is not doing too good. Thank you to those 2 people who has e-mailed me quotes. But here's a question I pose, should I release it on the projected release date even though its quotes aren't up to par? Comment on that, and if you have any quotes, E-mail Me

Discussion Seven : .Do a little .FFinking.
Posted by Kyle on Tuesday March 12th, at 09:56 AM
It discussion time again! Ooohh, most of you probably don't know what has happened but I got the responses I wanted

Anyway, Mimifish presented me with the next discussion topic. How do you feel about authors using .d and .ff files in their d-mods? Do you agree with their choice or do you think it would be better to just give full access to all source and graphic files? Go!

UPDATE : For those of you who have no idea what .D files and .ff files are, I have included a small note in the comments.

Updated D-Mod: Fairy Goodness Online v2.00
Posted by redink1 on Friday March 22nd, at 09:53 PM
Ikkejw has released Fairy Goodness Online v2.00 which fixes two minor bigs from FGOv1.00. Basically, the arenas are bigger and you can see the escape menu now.

Warning: If you downloaded this from a link other than Fileplanet, it may have been infected by the W95.CIH virus.

AGAE Madness
Posted by redink1 on Friday March 22nd, at 09:55 PM
Tyrsis has released two development files tying into As Good As Eternity. She has released a graphics pack containing bmps from AGAE, as well as the source code.

Updated Dev File: Happy Color 2
Posted by redink1 on Friday March 22nd, at 09:56 PM
Joshriot has released Happy Color 2 which I assume is an improved version of Happy Color v1.00. Basically, it tells you what the color codes are for text in a unique way (I think).

New Dev File: Ultimate Cheat v3.0
Posted by redink1 on Friday March 22nd, at 09:59 PM
Ted Shutes has released Ultimate Cheat v3.0, a new dev file. What is this, you ask, a Dev file? Well, in his collaboration with Paul, Ted made an ultra hard-core Ultimate Cheat. There is a ton of things that will be of interest to developerss, but would probably not interest players too much. There are simply too many changes too list.

Welcome to The Dink Network at RPGPlanet!
Posted by redink1 on Friday March 22nd, at 10:09 PM
After being hosted by Telefragged for about two-and-a-half years, I decided to switch hosts. The primary reason was Telefragged's 3ddownloads system. Starting last year, it had a ton of problems. It could take dozens of tries to successfully start downloading a file. Due to downloading problems, I'm sure we lost more than a few potential D-Mod creators.

RPGPlanet, hosted by Gamespy solves this problem with Fileplanet. Now you can wait in line to download files if the server is full. A very unique and well appreciated solution.

But, thats not all. The Dink Network has also had much of its underlying coding re-done once again (so this is now technically the Generation 7 design). For a complete list of changes, view the Comments.

Also, if you find any dead links or any other problems/concerns, please post a comment or post a message on the message board. Thanks. There has been a small problem with some files not being hosted on public Fileplanet servers... if you encounter such a file, please let me know.

Discussion Eight : Those tiny little details
Posted by Kyle on Wednesday March 27th, at 10:57 AM
Well, a new design and a new atmosphere of peace with our new download server needs a new discussion as well!

This week we'll talk a little more about reviews, a particular part of it anyway.

Old d-mods played by new (or relatively old) members of our community have sometimes given older d-mods less grades after they've played Epics like Prophecy of the Ancients, Stone of Balance or Fiat (just to name a few). Is this fair? Should d-mods be graded while taking into account the age of the file itself? And what about an author's first d-mod? Should it be reviewed as harshly as always or should we adapt our score to the situation?

Can we go even further and give different grades to different categories?

Whether it's 5 a.m. or midnight, you WILL first add your thoughts before going to bed or going to school/work.

The original reviewed once more!
Posted by Kyle on Thursday March 28th, at 09:25 AM
The original Dink Smallwood has once again been reviewed, this time by Gameug.com.

They give it a 4/5. Though it's only a very small review, it's worth checking out, plus you'll feel better about playing the game again.

Thanks Umpei Kurokawa (I presume it's okay to use the name, since you didn't add a nickname to your e-mail) for the information.

Now, if Redink1 could add this to the links section, everything will be fine again.

New D-Mod: Gorack, Umtar, and Shreik: The First Battle
Posted by redink1 on Thursday March 28th, at 06:20 PM
Martijn van Sliedregt has released Gorack, Umtar, and Shreik: The First Battle, his first D-Mod. I played it for about 10 minutes, and found it quite enjoyable.

New Cheat: God Mode Forever
Posted by redink1 on Sunday March 31st, at 08:38 PM
Martijn van Sliedregt has released God Mode Forever, which prevents Dink from dying (not to be confused with ikkejw's God Mode cheats). It does seem to require a bit of messing around though; you have to either edit start.c or modify the map.
