Most demos I've played seem to just be ripped from the actual game, and I don't really like that.
If I would release a demo, that's exactly what I'd do. I wouldn't release a demo before the dmod is finished. The demo would serve to get people interested in the story and/or new things I'm doing. And it would contain the date when the full game is released. Since it's already finished, it will indeed be released on that day. It may have been changed a bit based on demo feedback, though.
