Ok, here's the thing: you're exposed to all of this stuff anyway. Yes, washing your hands and having good hygiene eliminates a sizeable chunk, but not all. And all it takes is a very few germs to infect someone.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think society should go back to the dark ages when it was customary for surgeons and doctors to where dark clothes so blood and other stains didn't show up on the uniforms they never washed. In such situations as those, yes, its Uber important to keep everything as sterile as humanly possible.

But you're not going to die or get sick if you eat a booger or a cockroach.
