Hello there.
All I need is to play dink smallwood in my Asus EEE pc.
The problem is that the Asus EEE, supports up to 800x480 widescreen on its 7'' monitor.
When I start dink in window mode it starts and plays fantastic but it cuts graphics from the bottom of the screen
When I start it in normal mode, it never starts. it says mode not supported.

any help on how can i play it full screen on 800x480, or wiindowed without cutting from the bottom of the screen?

many thanks in advance

Try setting your monitor resolution to 640x480 before starting Dink.

unfortunately my EEEpc does not accept 640x480 resolution
it works fine only in 800x480.

any other thoughts?

Dunno. If you have an old monitor lying around you could plug that in and use it?

What OS is your EeePC running? (Linux or Windows?)

It's strange that Dink's 640x480 doesn't fit your 800x480... It does mathematically
Does it take the full width of the screen when running?

I don't get why it wouldn't accept that resolution. Are you a Linux user? Perhaps there's a way to make 640x480 resolutions force to 800x480 and leave the side borders black in the X configuration...

How can it cut from the bottom of the screen if it's 800x480 and Dink is 640x480?

Thinking about it, it's cut in windowed mode, so this must be the title bar and task bar

I agree with Beuc on this. Some pixels would be taken up by the skin of the window itself, leaving less than the max of 480 for vertical display. I could not find a way to alter the window size for Dink, so I guess it's always 640x480. I also did some searching regarding the EEE, mainly at Asus.com, and the most I could learn is that there is some kind of switch (in the software I am guessing) to go from 800x480 to either low or high resolution from there. No actual numbers, just a recommendation not to use either one, which kinda stinks in my opinion. Why offer higher or lower resolution if the manufacturer expects degraded performance on any setting but the default? And I believe they run on Linux from the factory. I like the incorporation of Linux OS, but with the limitations on display, I'll make sure to avoid this particular notebook. Sorry, linuxdef, looks like you have little or no recourse. You have my sympathy.

With a little know-how, it is possible to remove both window decorations and the task bars, so it would at least be possible to play the game. I don't have the exact know-how, but I know how I would go about to figure it out. Google, anyone?

Good thinking Phoenix, I had not thought to look for something like that. Even though this is not my thread, I may try to find something. If I do, I will post again. My concern is not for myself, but I remember times with much older video cards that were very limited, and I hope to help someone now, since others helped me in times long ago.

Or, Beuc could just allow anything that is [greater or equal to 640]x480 be allowed, centering the 640x480 scene within that. Whichever is easier.

Hey,

FreeDink (thanks to SDL) can indeed simulate fullscreen 640x480 on a 800x480 display. It will just center the 640x480 screen and display black lateral borders.

Hello Guys! due to connection problems I wasnt able to participate in replies.
now I m back. Yes I am using Win XP, not linux. (I use linux in my hardcore machines, heh) Yes, it cuts only in windowed mode. In full screen doesnt start at all. There is software for EEEpc to change resolutions... but never got it to work properly. I used many resolutions but all of them are bigger than the screen's edges when enabled. Anyway, I ll keep playing dink in other computers than this The thing is that because I am from Greece and i m always traveling from island to island, Dink is a great company when I am in the ferry

Thanks everybody for the replies! I ll search it more and If i find something i ll let you know

Or, maybe, allow anything that is X and Y multiplied by the same number, something like [1280x960]. Or, let's say there's a weird resolution, like[647x1324]. then, it could be:
(<X res>%640)*640 = <Dink X res>
(<Y res>%480)*480 = <Dink Y res>
(<X res> - <Dink X res = <total X margin>
<total X margin> / 2 = <left margin>
<total X margin> - <left margin> = <right margin>
(the same with Y)

Where % is diversion, but without what remains.
