Re: LAN Party...Sort of
I have somehow been placed in charge of throwing a big end of the year (school year) party at my college. I have decided to do a video game blowout. Having tournys and Free play from 10 at night to 4 or so in the morning. Console gaming and LAN gaming will be included... However, my question for you guys (and girls) is do you have any suggestions for things to do, games to have tourneys with, anything really? How would I make this thing great? We are holding it in our basketball gym because it has the best space and is wired well enough to take huge load.
Most of my LAN parties consisted of maybe 8 - 15 people and we'd usually just find a game that we all wanted to play it till we got bored and wanted to play something else. Usually, just that is enough to take up an entire night.
Back in the day, we usually played HL Deathmatch, Unreal Tournament, Tribes, or Giants. Sometimes Counterstrike would be thrown in, but usually under great protest from people who sick of it.

I suggest you make it mandatory to cosplay

I used to have 4-10 people get crazy about our T.A. sessions. Man, the carnage was unbelievable at times.
You wanna talk about being wired well enough to take a huge load?
Yeah, we had really, really dumb games at times. Alpha-striking krogoths for example.
I will go ahead and take the blame for the "huge load" comment. I should of known not to post that anywhere near where Tal might see it.
The teachers are actually letting you host a video game tourney? At school? Heck, I wish I went to your school.
Grade school and college are two completely different ballfields, trust me.
Oh, college. I figured it was like, end of Grade 12 or something. My bad.
I actually managed to have a LAN party at school when I was in grade 12. I don't know if they'd let kids do that anymore, though.
We were allowed to play a couple lan games at my high-school during noon-hour. One of them was chess, so don't get too excited though.
Very true Tal, you have much more freedom in the way of extracurricular activities then in the realm of grade school.
But ya I am thinking about putting a counterstrike tourny in. the only problem would be getting people to bring their rigs...hmm...

Heh, back in my day, people bringing their rigs *was* the only way to have a LAN party.
