I, Laughlan Fahey, reinstall Windows/format hard disk regularly to repair my comp. You should see how much beta shoot I have on my comp.
Am I the only one who regularly reinstalls Windows to fix my comp?
I am hereby finalizing my backups so I can redo Windows!

The guy with the cute D-Mod.
Reinstalling Windows doesn't exactly fix your computer. Just run Disk Defragmenter. It saves a heck of a lot of time and it's way easier.

But still, a few months ago when I still used Windows 98, I had to reinstall it a number of times because it just stuffed up. I only reinstalled XP a few weeks ago because I put in a new Motherboard and CPU. And when you do that, XP has a cow because it thinks you're putting it in a new computer. dang OP...

No, I don't install Windows regularly. In fact, I haven't re-installed an OS for years. I use the same OS now that I used several years ago. Of course, I've updated it, but it's still the same OS. For those who wonder, I'm using Linux.

lol!
I haven't reinstalled Windows in years and it works fine. I think you're doing something wrong.

DinkDude95, defragmenting just puts data in their place on the hard disk. It's just one thing you need to do to keep the computer clean, next to keeping the amount of applications in the system tray at a small amount, keeping Windows' temp folders and registry clean, running an extra memory management program...

Blackguard, defragmenting your hard disk has absolutely NOTHING to do with your registry. Also, how is your registry corrupted if you reformat every once in a while? I think part of your disk is just corrupted, so I suggest you get a new one.

In other news: Linux is fast, and it stays fast. At least, if you choose the right distribution.

By Beta shoot, I mean beta testing games, apps, virtual runtime systems, registry edits!, system repairs, virtual OS's etc...
So you see why my disk is corrupted.
My Hard Disk isn't corrupted (pretty sure-98%):
1.I recently bought a new one.
2.See Beta shoot

The beta stuff you named will never ever corrupt your hard disk. what bad stuff you do with your computer and if the hard disk still works fine are two seperate things. The registry is just data, it doesn't fiddle with your file systems. Virtual PCs usually reserve a special file for all virtual data so it can't get corrupt. Etcetera.

Your hard disk was likely just dying.

Defrager doesn't work properly cause my reg is corrupted in some parts.

Then use RegCleaner.

I have a 40Gb laptop, I have 3 Gb left!

Maybe you have a garbage in your computer.Use a computer cleaner program or System Mechanic.

I do. Not really reinstalling, I have a clean disk C image with a completely installed windows and my usual programs, that lets me replace system and all in 15 min.
I have to do it from time to time because of frequent program and device testing, also to fix it after some bad sites (some things don't heal).

black gaurd, i didn't defrag or clean my computer for a year and it turned out fine with only 200mb hard drive space left (although it died pretty soon and still won't turn on) so why the f*ck do you need to reinstall windows? PCs work just fine without any maintenance

Daniel, there are clowns.
PCs work just fine without any maintenance

That all depends on what's been done on that PC. There are some people who screw up their computer on a monthly basis, in which case, maintenance is VERY necessary.

Seriously Joshriot, it's so easy to screw up your computer. Not trying to usually doesn't get you in trouble, duh.

Sorry Fireball5, he has to decide if he wants to duck or keep standing.

I wish I never started this thread...
Well I do know what I'm doing, I am actually quite smart with computers.
I have reinstalled Windows already.
The only main reason I reinstalled windows this time was to fix up my hard disk space and get rid of a tonne of spy ware that embedded itself in my windows directory (the spy ware was a leech that attached itself to some app).

If you were smart with computers, you wouldn't install all kinds of software and trust it all, no? Always look for software that looks the most safe - it's usually the best, too.
