Another review rant
Perhaps you should just hire someone to do reviews, rather than let the usual suspects accept under-par reviews. I think the reviews, specifically the example I'm going to post are all just glazed over and accepted.
Stone of Balance Review
How is Firelake, avelaris, yill and maybe just dragonsborn a 'Good Review'? Didn't they use to be judge on length?
Come on boys and girls, let's get the reviewing standard a bit higher please!
PS: On a side note, Kyle's review is no longer there
Another Rant..

Another Rant..
Dmods when rated, then reviewed, are not just based on length, , but on what the writer felt was good or bad about the dmod. I am sure the members of the staff carefully check out and decide who's review they beleive is the most sincere.
How many dmods have you reviewed? It is not as easy as it looks.

And so, after looking at the reviews of SOB... I must say: WTF are you complaining about, Jamie?
Those are pretty terrible examples of bad reviews. The only review there that I would not approve would be avelaris's. The rest are understandable and manage to say enough of what they liked or disliked about the mod. Keep in mind that many Dinker's don't speak English very well.

I think what Jamie meant is that those reviews are excellent reviews, and asks himselfs why they are rated "good" instead of "excellent".
If that was the case... it might just be bad English holding them back.
However, he did say "Come on boys and girls, let's get the reviewing standard a bit higher please!", which suggests that he doesn't think they are good enough.

That was another point, and if you read my previous post that proves that

You tell us to get the reviewing standard a bit higher, but you're implying that good reviews should be upgraded to excellent reviews? Interesting...
If staff members are judging reviews solely based on length, then I believe they should change their standards a bit. That's my two cents, anyway.
A "good" review isn't very difficult to write, going by our standards. Discuss a few things you liked/disliked about a D-Mod, and as long as it makes sense, is somewhat legible, and isn't pathetically short, it's probably going to be passed.
An "excellent" review -- by my standards, anyway -- is tougher to achieve. It should be lengthy enough that it details the many aspects of the D-Mod, as we've already implied. In addition, it should also demonstrate a strong grasp of proper spelling and grammar concepts, which a lot of your cited reviews don't possess. I'm not necessarily looking for absolute perfection - I'd wager none of us can achieve that - but obvious mistakes should be minimal. Yes, I know that not everyone here speaks English as their primary language, but I feel that we can maintain this standard without having a total absence of excellent reviews (plus, "Excellent Reviews From People Who Speak English as a Second Language" would be silly). Finally, the chosen score should be clearly justified and not just yanked out of the reviewer's butt (not to imply there's a special equation that produces the score.. that'd be a bit ridiculous).
I may have forgotten a few of the standards I hold for excellent reviews; if so, I'll edit this post later on. I hope this explains a bit about why certain reviews are categorized in certain ways.
One final note: We'd be screwed if we "hired" someone to write reviews, given how frequently the collective staff writes articles.

I have reviewed 53, so far. Why does he(Iceman, Jamie etc...I have forgotten all the rest) keep changing his name?? I am getting confused
And since you have another new name your previous (retro account) does not count.
Your Welcome.

And to think we gave Lady Carrot such a hard time about changing names/accounts...*tsk*
But I did write them, didn't I? I wasn't REALLY moaning by the way. Just saying that some reviews shouldn't really be accepted, and questioning if they used to be judged on length. Chill pill to the people!
"Well, it looks like I can't defend my case further, so I'm going to tell everyone to chill"
Yeah, I like that.
Yeah, I like that.
The problem with reviews is that they're naturally subjective, which is why the beauty of a multiple review system is that we get a variety of different perspectives on the game. Hiring a single person to do the reviews would leave the review system at the mercy of a single viewpoint, which would be really boring, not to mention bad. Plus a multiple review system is really great for feedback.
A shiver always goes down my spine whenever I see the words "the usual suspects" in a forum post. Brr.
